Does advertising make you buy the product/service?

Advertisiers spend millions of pounds/dollars trying to persuade you that their product is better/cheaper etc than someone else's identical product. Does this affect your buying decisions? Are they wasting their money? Do you turn over/make a cuppa during the adverts?
Do you click on the adverts around the Mylot screen?
What about product placement and sponsorship of programmes? Does this affect your buying style?
I am sure the advertisers, if they are reading this, would be interested in your comments!

I think they would not dare to ask it! You are not meant to question the fundamental principles! I do! I like challenging the stereotypes. Have a look at my other questions and you will see they are gernerally equally controversial!

I do not think adverts persuade us to get that product. It seems more like to make us remember that there is such option and we decide ourselves. As for me, i think of adverts as a information. I don't get persuaded by adverts, i remember the names of the product or site and i do some research myself. I generally check on ratings and reviews before i decide on purchasing the product.

The advert does not make me buy a product but it does help to show me what options there are and what items are out there to buy. basically the advert will always show the product in a good light so you can't use it as a reason to buy as you should check it out yourself.

I am a huge sucker for marketing. Not so much online but if I see like a Wendy's comercial or something like that then I want it. Or those stupid infomercials....I want to try whatever product they are selling. Like I said I "WANT" to but next to never go through with it.
