With all the talk about change going on, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought. Ppl seem to automatically think that change is naturally a good thing. That’s not always the case. You may get better, but you may also get worse. A prime example is our apt. management. Our previous manager was allright…a little moody but a decent manager and she cared about the apt.’s. There were some tenants that were thrilled when she decided to leave…one of them a family friend. I tried to tell her that although the previous manager wasn’t everyone’s favorite…we could get worse. Now we have a manager that is hardly here, doesn’t give a rat’s butt about the apt.’s or anyone in them. We went from good to bad. Years ago, when Hubby and I closed our foster home, it was a major change but a good one…we were able to spend more time with each other and really get our relationship back on track. We went from allright to really good. Back when I was a teenager I had problems at home with my stepfather. I thought getting married was a solution. I went from family problems to being beat up daily by my ex-husband. I went from bad to terrible. Change isn’t always a good thing…it can be but not always. So, why do ppl automatically assume when some is preaching about change that it’s going to be a good change. Lately, I’ve heard a lot about change from the Obama campaign, about how he’s going to change things…ppl assume that the change is going to be good and benefit the American ppl…but how do they know that? Do you think that change is always good? When Obama talks about change, do you automatically think he’s going to make things better? If so, what are basing that thought on…in other words what has he changed that is better now then it was before? ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

Hi twoey! I definitely agree with you that change is not always for the better and I don't know why people automatically think that it is. I have found that in my life change is definitely not always for the good. And in some cases I am deathly afraid of the word change. It can sometimes be as you said very bad indeed! I guess in the case of Obama people are just really hoping that this change will be for the better because it is so bad now! And I think that is what most people hope for when they hear the word change, that they are hoping it will be something good. But, as you and I know that isn't always the case. And I too am very skeptical when I hear that word because I have known it to mean something quite the opposite!

No twoey change is not always good.In fact a lot of times change is brought about because people are running from their problems.Just like you was, I have done the same thing as you did myself and it does not always work out for the best.Sometimes we jump from the flame into the fire...Change can sometimes be good ,but we have to have that change planned out ahead of time amd make sure it is workable...and see the end results...About this Obama thing,i am sure that he might think he will make these changes and he might really think it will happen,i am not sure, but he cannot say for sure these changes will happen,he is just hoping for change..He has the senate to go through PLUS lots of other people and things to go through before he makes any changes...The President does not have the final word,it has to be voted upon after it is presented..Obama cannot just all of a sudden make these changes he is talking about..Just remember this is campaign talk, and it happens every time we have an election..

Well, yes some change is very good, but there is also some change that can be very bad. It all depends on the change. I know that Obama's campaign talks a lot of about change, and change can be a great thing. The question should be: what kind of change?

Not Obama's change, he's a die hard socialist and unless we want to make the same mistakes that the USSR did, we'd do better without him.

You're right. Change is not always good. Change just to have change is often NOT good. The change offered by Obama is not something I call good. Having more socialism is not good. Stealing from the rich to give to people who don't even pay taxes...not good.

Hi twoey68, When Tony Blair firt took over Downing Street, in the UK, the slogan was 'THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER!' but it turned out to be worst, every politians had said the same old things and evryone of them has made it worse, so they should stop saying it because years a go it was good but not now. When Obama talks about change to me it's a way of saying "I'm gonna do whatever the heck I want and call it 'change'". Change isn't always the best, you are right. I don't think things always need to change 100%, sometimes we can just make minor changes that make a big difference. Obama sort of scares me because the way he talks about Change, I'm afraid he will try to do too much at once and end up either getting in over his head, or making quick decisions that aren't necessarily good decisions.

Change that takes away more of our rights isnt good. Change that disarms our country is not good, because of possible attacks on our homeland and because if it were ever to be that our government went completly evil...uhum...I dont think its fair to allow children as young as 13 to get abortions without parents consent...and I amagainst all this partial birth abortion anyway. I am concerned that this is moving towards the one world order. I am concerned that disobeying God will bring punishment upon our nation from God. I think change has to be positive. I do not see where those changes he wants to make are positive. I do not think we should force draft, when we have enough volunteers. I think there are too many demands and control tactics in his plans.

This is an excellent discussion, Twoey! People who always...notice I said always, think change is the answer without thinking about what could happen with a change, seem to be not thinking on a very deep level. We have all been there at one time. It is when we make a career out of it or put those ideas on really important issues like the election that gets us into trouble. With Obama's background and the events surrounding him, it is hard to believe that people have read the information available out there and still choose to vote for him. They just want change. Any change will do. Like a child, I don't like this ice cream flavor, and I want a different one, right now! The child did not think that pistachio might not be as good as the last one. The election is the same thing. If Obama gets in, we WILL have change, but that change is not going to be a good one. America has been changing little by little due to liberals and atheists trying to crush the dreams that people have in their own spirituality whether it be Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. This past year it has gone full speed ahead. If Obama gets in, America will have her first big slice of Socialism. For those who have nothing (in their opinion) and for those who do not work for a living in any way, shape or form, it might not be so bad. They get something for nothing. However, for people who work hard, enjoy freedom, and love making their own choices, it is going to get scary. Once this happens there is no turning back. It will be the beginning of the end. We will need the WHOLE armor of God just to survive.

God is about the only thing we will probably have if he gets in...though there's a good chance we'll have to worship God quietly and discreetly so as not to offend anyone. I've also seen alot of changes and not good ones coming along these last few years and I believe that with Obama in the office we will only have more bad changes to come. You know several ppl I have talked to about Obama just flat refuse to believe anything bad about him...they almost worship him which is really scary. No matter what facts you show them...they just don't want to hear it. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

I lost a "friend" the other day. She was like someone I never met before for the first time. It was all over Obama. She accused me of saying and doing things I never did. She was so nasty. It was all about Obama. I was a good friend to her, but it is ok because I learned a lot from it. I have found that most Obama supporters can be some of the nastiest people I have ever met. There has never been an election like this one before. My husband is an Obama supporter, and fortunately, the nicest one I have met. He even agreed to take us to the McCain/Pallin rally....but he is a rare one.

People are listening to what comes out of his mouth and not bothering to look at what he has or has not done.Back in the day (and until this day) with normal peole it is called "taking you at your word" and that is fine and good as long as you arent talking about a politician, you take a politician at their word at your own peril. Let's face it the man talks a good game and if you don't want to bother checking to see what he has or hasn't done then you will probably vote for him. Shoot if i couldn't read i would probably vote for him, the first time i heard him talk i considered him then i looked up his record and knew even the THOUGHT was a hugh mistake! Then i began listening to some of thew things him and his wife are saying and knew i had wasted my time looking into his choices as a senator because he cut his own throat with me everytime he opened his mouth without reading a speech that someone else had written, actually some of his actions would have made sure i didn't vote for him he didn't even have to open his mouth! Now that i have ticked off half the people that will read this let me assure them that this is only MY opinion and i (unfortunatly) do not have the wherewithal to assure that MY choice gets into office because if i did we could all go have dinner at the White House with Grandpa Bob and play with little Savanna! I don't always think change is good. I am actually so afraid of change it's ridiculous. I am one that likes things the way I am used to them. That's not to say I'm not spontanious and dont' like to just go on an impromtu outing or something of the sort. But my daily life and routine and how things are in general it's hard for me to get used to change like movign for example. I tend to get down and out for awhile when big changes occur in my life. Silly, I know. I don't know why I am this way. I think that is the scary part of any election is canidates promise better changes, to improve things but who really knows for sure? I mean obvioulsy not EVERYTHING they do is going to be a change for the good. Each one will do things that change and effect people and it could go both ways. It's just a roll of the dice really. Life has no gaurentees.

People hear the word change and think it means things are going to be better. But you are right; not all change is good. And I'm afraid those believing that Obama's change means for the good will be disappointed. I just heard on the news by Major Garrett that is following OBama's campaign said that the campaign says the kind of change they can expect is what he did in Chicago. And, from what I hear about his time in Chicago, things never got better. Money that was alloted for that area he worked in was never used for the 'change'. I personally don't believe a word he has said.

I am hoping for change whether it be a small change or whatever. Something needs to change things can't keep going the way they are. America is losing jobs and people are losing their homes, cars and families due to this we need change. Used to be foreigners came to America to get jobs and give their families back home hope and money to survive. Now our jobs are going other places and it is hurting America causing it's slow but steady downfall into recession. We might not like all the changes that will take place or others views and regulations but whatever happens something needs to be done before it is to late.

Any politician that promises change raises a lot of questions in my mind. I do not assume that change is always good, especially the process that arrives at the change can often be painful. It is good not to be static, and to be open to change, however great consideration needs to be taken of the so called change, to make sure it is not just chasing our tail like a dog does. I am skeptical about the whole political process. Not sure either candidate will be our best choice, but there definitely will be a change in January.

Yup...like alot of naturally occurring things, change is what it is and negative and positive things can not be tied to the word itself, because it depends on the individual circumstances. When he talks about change, I know he's trying to refer to a good change. Whether he'll do it, or not, remains to be seen. In many ways, alot of the nay-sayers this election season are right: both candidates are likely to bring about SOME sort of change. For the better, for the worst, none of the above...who can say? But the tides are turning, and what people forget is...change doesn't usually ask you if you want it to happen or not unless you're actually trying to initiate it yourself. I believe it's coming whether we want it to or not, and that it's likely to be good and bad.

Well, there is the old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But most change is good. Just think about your computer. The first computers were room sized and could not do the stuff we can do now. To make change work we need people who are willing to take a chance and are also willing to admit they were wrong. Seen that in any elected official lately? There is no way to know if, assuming he is elected, Obama will be able to change anything. After all we did not get into this mess overnight, it took years of bad choices and bad management. Baseball teams change managers faster...

Hi twoey, Thanks for a great discussion, what you are saying makes a lot of sense. Change is not always for the best, but it certainly can be. When it comes to politics we have to make sure that we understand what change means to that particular candidate. As a Canadian I follow the American Campaign closely and happen to think that the changes Obama stands for would be good, but of course I don't have the knowledge of your country that you would have. Change as you say can be either good or bad and there are many things to take into consideration. Blessings.

I agree, it can be good and it can be bad. I could give tons of examples in my life, but it would be the same basic premise. One huge change in our life that was positive was the birth of my granddaughter. Although we help out in watching her and having my daughter and her live with us to help out, we are overjoyed to have her. Losing my son was a bad change, but from that came other things, so it is that old adage about silver linings. We have learned from his loss that life needs to be lived to the fullest. Another change was me retiring from my successful business. I thought that I would miss it more but I do not, even though I loved it. I see my family more and that is great. I think when Obama talks about change, he is talking about positive changes he wants to make. There are no perfect presidents but if he wins, I think he will do well.
