Yesterday I made some baked beans. I start with my pork and beans then I add chopped onion and bell pepper. Some brown sugar and barbeque sauce. Then top it with some bacon. Occasionally I will put browned ground sausage in it too. How do you make your baked beans? What ingredients do you use?

I live in South Texas where Chili is big. Chili is available in cans, with, or without beans, and in several heat ranges. If you like hot peppers, or prefer a cooler Chile its all on the store shelf. I like Chili, and sometimes I add Pork and Beans for a change. If you are busy all day, just mix the Beans and Chili in a Crock Pot. Leave it on low and your dinner will be ready when you are.

Okay, I have to ask. You put an egg in your baked beans? Can you please tell us just how you make the beans with the egg? Is it raw, stirred up in the beans and baked, or boiled and chopped up in the beans? I have not ever heard of putting an egg in and I am really curious now.

i buy Bush's brown sugar beans, I think they already got some of the spices that I use and the flavor is so much better than just regular pork and beans. I add brown sugar, bbq sauce, onion, garlic, bacon, and my spices. I am always ask if granny is making baked beans for christmas and thankgiving. My grand daughter can eat a bowl full

What I add in my bake beans? Well I buy several cans of pork beans. First I strain the juice off the beans. Then I add a little white sugar, brown sugar, onion, bell pepper, syrup, barbeque sauce and honey. While that sit I fry some hamburger meat, drain the grease and add it. Every now and then I add celery or top it with a couple strips of bacon. Put it in the oven on 350 for about 45 minutes. Not trying to brag, but It is real good.
I have a cousin who adds smoked sausage in her bake beans.

I make my baked beans differently every time. I always start out with pork and beans. I usually use brown sugar, mustard, bbq sauce, onions. Sometimes I put other things in their to. It just depends on what I have lying around. I do love eating baked beans no matter how they are prepared.

I just put some brown sugar and ketchup in them. I'm not a big fan of baked beans so I really don't make them often.
My husband puts chopped up hot dogs and doritoes in his.

Sounds like you have a good recipe there. I add some molasses. Makes for very good, rich flavor. Lots of onions and some green peppers. Bacon, yes. Sausage or bacon but I wouldn't do both. And put it in a crock pot or pottery type cookery and let it slow cook awhile. Makes the flavors merge. Yum. Makes me hungry to think about it. My grandma used to fix this.

I have actually never made my own baked beans. I rarely buy them either. The ones you make sound really good though. Except for the bell pepper. I don't like bell pepper's. I make something called Calico beans that has 4 different kinds of beans, sugar, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, bacon, and ground beef that sounds like it would be similar to what you make though.

Hello
I and hubby professor are very fond of beans, it is a must in our night meal with chapati or paratha, because we both have diabetes, we need lot of proteins, we take different types of beans usually. To baked beans i add cut onions, carrots etc to make it taste better lol.
Happy posting, cheers.
