Do you flush every time?

I've read that flushing every single time wastes a lot of water and that it's not good for the environment. However I think it's a habit now that I just automatically flush after every time. Would you not flush to save the environment? Or do you think this is not very pretty to say the least and would flush every time no matter what?
What do you do?
What do you think?

If I poo, yes always. If I pee and it is pretty clear pee, then it can wait to be flushed. If it is yellow, I flush it.

Thanks for the response! I guess it's pretty much routine for all of us!

You'll have a stinky toilet if you don't flush everytime. The best solution to conserve water is get a bottle or a platic gallon and fill it with water then put it inside the flush tank (that is if you have one) so that when you flush there'd be less water.

I agree - that's why I didn't want to take their advice right off the bat. Thanks for the bit of advice!

Hi deejean,
Well...
Maybe it wastes a lot of water while flushing (well actually it really does), but still, I find it quite unhygienic if I don't flush after each use.
Some toilet bowls allow for half-flushes so if one is doing just small business, that is one viable option.

Thanks for the response! It's good to know that I'm not the only one who thinks that it's ok to flush after every time.

I'm so use to flushing after every time I use the toilet, I don't know that I could ever stop doing it. Right now, I really need to flush to toilet since I have a case of the squirts right now, and it wouldn't look too pretty if I didn't. That would not be a pretty picture to be going to the bathroom, and seeing that.
Besides, we don't pay water, so we don't have to worry about it.

Well - I certainly hope you are feeling better... We do pay for water but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's better to always flush. Thanks for the response!

I would love to save the environment. But sad to say, if we don't flush the effect would be a stinky toilet. I have no choice. One mall in our area has changed their urinal into "no flush urinals". This is really great. It saves a lot of water. I really don't know how but from what I understand the urinals are designed with no flushing yet no stinking odor. Hopefully the rest will follow. This will really save the environment.

That is a really great feature! Unfortunately I don't want to install a urinal in my home... so I'll just keep flushing the toilet. Thanks for the response!

Well I drink a lot of water, so I use the bathroom quite a bit. I usually always flush no matter what. Except if I am up late at night, if I pee, I will usually not flush it till morning. I am up late all the time and frequent the bathroom quite often. The toilet flushing is really loud, and because I live in an apartment building, and the walls are thin. I do not want to flush the toilet and bother anyone in the middle of the night. Also, I do like to conserve water for the environment.
I have been not flushing at night for a long time, and there has been no adverse effects on my toilet, so I imagine it can't be too bad not to flush.

Thanks for the response! Sometimes we don't flush at night either only because we're afraid to wake each other and the baby. I can totally relate to the loud flushing and the thin walls!

"If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down." That's pretty much what I do. Toilets take an average of 6 gallons of water each time we flush. Urine does not smell when mixed with water, until/unless it becomes very strong, so there's really no reason to flush after every use. With so many droughts around the world, potable water is becoming more scarce, so it makes sense to save where we can.

Thanks - I'll share that with my husband and we'll try to save where we can.

I agree - I don't know what these environmentalists are thinking...
