Do all kid fight this battle?
You've heard it. You probably did it yourself as a kid.
With your bothers and sisters.
With your friends when going out on Friday night.
"Shotgun!" You shout. It gives you claim to the oh so coveted front passenger seat.
Did you fight this battle as a child. Are your children now fighting that very same battle?

Since I was an only child I could not do that. But my kids frequently did, which really annoyed me as they fought over the seats.

I wonder if the fact hat you didn't have that fight as a child, mate it even more irritating to you when your children did it.

lol Please tell me you're joking. For some reason, I think my kids may have somewhat figured that out. It always seems the one who is misbehaving the most is the one I can't reach!

No.... we sat in the back seat.
The only time anyone sat in the front was if we were the only one going.
The driver of course, always sat in the front...

Sounds like a practical rule. I've often gotten myself into trouble by tryig to be too "understanding". Thanks for the reply.

My best friends family had a station wagon, I think. My oldest sister drove one for a while too. I do remember enjoying the ride in the back seat! Motion sickness is my daughters "claim" as to why she ALWAYS needs to ride in the front. Just to avoid her hissy fits, my son usually just doesn't bother to argue, but every once in a while he decides to take a stand. I usually try to back him up when he does.
She rides in the front at least 95% of the time!

No, my kids had to sit in back but when my son was killed in a DUI accident, the other passengers were safe. His seat, "SHOTGUN", was fought over and he "WON". Well, if he had lost, he would still be alive. Sorry to bring your discussion down but that came to mind when you said that. His 29th birthday is next week and it is on my mind a lot.

I'm so sorry for your loss. No need to apologize for bringing my discussion "down".

It got so bad that I had to carry a list in my purse to decide who's turn it was. Even then if we made an unexpected trip and I forgot to add it to my list, I was in trouble. Wasn't it great when all you had to be concerned with was whom sat where?

lol It could very possibly be the MOST aggravating thing that parents have to deal with!

I never heard of this before, so I never played it as a child and I doubt that my son did either.

my brother and I used to have the shotgun fight when we were younger. I think kids still have the fight because it's in their nature to compete and getting to sit in the front seat with mom or dad is like the ultimate prize. Heck I think from time to time we still play that LOL.

My sister did not care much about where she sat so when she said or rare ocasion that she wanted to sit in the front sit then she did. This was before we had the car sits safety thing. My son is not allowed in the front sit ever as he is 6 years old. When we went overseas they dont have car sits there (as in safety sits) so people tried to tell me it was ok for him to sit in the front but I refused to let him sit there. He never asks to sit there but daddy lets him play drivers and "drive" the car so he is happy with that.

My kids don't fight for the front seat because I can't stand their music and turn it to the back of the Jeep so they have to sit back there if they want to hear their junk LOL

Hey miamilady! I had never heard that term used until I was
an adult! The first time I ever heard it was when I was going
somewhere with some friends! Before that I had never heard of
it before! Now these friends were in their 30's! So it isn't
just something that kids do!

lol im 18 and I still battle for shotgun, the rule of thumb where i live is passenger seat controlls the radio :) we try to keep it safe so we dont allow driver to work the radio at all even if they hate the song thats playing

Fortunately my youngest two children are under the age of 12 and are not allowed to ride in the front seat. My daughter will be 12 one year before my son, so I won't have to endure that battle for another three years. I went through some of this with my older kids, but now that they are out of the house, they have pretty much solved that problem when they ride anywhere with me. I don't ever remember having those arguments with my brother when I was younger, because he never went anywhere with just me and my mom, and when we did go riding in the car, we went as a family, so Mom always rode "shotgun!"

Who doesn't fight for the best seat in the car? You have a view of the road ahead, all the AC you want, control of the radio and the extra space that's nonexistant for those who have to ride b!tch. The only time I avoid "shottie" is when I don't trust the driver.
