This is odd and it makes me think that my allergies are causing all these problems. I took a Zyrtec today and my anxiety and hyperventilation problem subsided. This is good maybe its my allergies giving me all these problems. I was trying to get by without allergy meds this season but I guess I will continue with the zyrtec. I also felt very calm and relaxed by the med. Do you think allergys and anxiety is linked?

Half my responce was eaten... darn Mylot Mice. I said something like: Allergies of all kinds can cause all sorts of issues. And they are often the last thing thought of.

Having allergies is really stressful.Zyrtec is really good, I used to take Iterax for problems like such, but I believe Zyrtec is way better. For your anxiety and hyperventilation, you might wanna consult a doctor for that particular complaint.

I don't know if I would say that allergies and anxiety are linked. The only common thing they have is the shortness of breath. It's very possible that the problem is allergies. You'll know more once the season changes.

I know allergy meds often have a tranquilizing effect. I don't know about Zyrtec but if it works fine! Do it.

Hi moneymommy...I don't have allergies so I really don't know exactly what you go through but on the other hand if I had a cold all the time - runny nose, etc. I think I would be anxious also. I'm glad that you took something which helps you relieve these symptoms.

Hi moneymommy..I would say yes they are linked, absolutely. When allergies act up, it makes it difficult to breathe. When breathing is funny, we wonder whats causing it and in return, we develop anxiety from worrying about what it is. So its very possible that it was your allergies acting up but because you were uncertain, it also made you anxious. When you took the Zyrtec, it calmed the allergies, making you feel better.

Yes it does. I researched an article for you: http://www.conqueranxiety.com/Seasonal+Allergies+Can+Aggravate+Anxiety-FD8.html and it says that the body reacts when your allergies are triggered. It tries to fight off the allergies so that's where the anxiety attacks come from :) Also some people also confuse their allergies with anxiety :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I don't know if there's a link between anxiety and allergies, but I do know that many allergy medicines can make you drowsy, which is what Zyrtec does to me. It actually surprised me, but about 30 minutes after I took it I had to lie down and take a nap. Maybe, Zyrtec just has a slight affect on you, so that it calms you down a bit. And hey, if it helps your allergies too, BONUS!
