MRI of my brain...

Here we go again... I have an upcoming appointment for yet another MRI of my brain in about a week and a half. I just recently was able to get health insurance again after almost a year without it. So, now I can finally go back to trying to find out what is wrong with me. The last neurologist I saw last year said he is 50% sure I might have multiple sclerosis. I haven't been getting any treatment since he wasn't 100% sure! It is very frustrating not knowing. I hope this new doctor I've started seeing can figure it out. Anybody else ever had an MRI of your brain before? Anyone else out there have or possibly have MS? Any support is welcome. Jill

I hope you do find out what it is and get it dealt with ASAP. I don't have MS. I do know a couple of people who have MS, a family member and a Yuwie contact that I could try to put you in touch with.

I have MS. I was diagnosed in July 1998. Been on a boat load of medicines. My boyfriend also has MS. We met through a Yahoo support group. As long as you lay still and not mind a lot of *banging* noises you'll do fine with the MRI. There are quite a few people on MyLot who have MS. Aty least there used to be. Any questions? Just yell. Hi! No, my case isn't too bad. It depends on the day. My main thing is memory and fatigue. I have had other symptoms that were bad, but thank God they went away for the most part. I am not on here a lot, but I do miss everyone.

LDN hasn't really*done* anything, BUT I haven't had a relapse in over a year. I had relapses on the other meds. I am going through something that 'might' be MS related, but might not. I do feel better.

Thanks so much sunnflr. I really appreciate your concern. I haven't been able to work outside of the home for almost 2 years now and it is really taking its toll on me. I just began a home based business in January but still having trouble getting it off the ground because of my fatigue and leg pains.

I am so sorry for your troubles. I hope this mri will determine your problem & u can get treatment for it. I HAVE HAD A MRI ON MY BRAIN. I had an aneurysm. THAT WAS IN 2000.THEY also found an aneurysm behind my right eye. They did surgery for the one on my brain but did nothing about the behind my eye. I HAVE DONE O.K. SINCE THE SURGERY. HAVE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS IN FACT 4years ago today i had a stroke but i'm still kicking. I AM SO GLAD U HAVE INSURANCE NOW. I WISH U THE VERY BEST. Let me know what u find out from the mri. GOOD LUCK.

It's scheduled for Monday, I think it's is the 22nd of June, early morning. Maybe I'll sleep through it! Ya right! lol Jill

Yes a year ago I had an MRI of my brain. Imagine they checked my brain and didn't find anything. hehehe No seriously I first had a CT scan because I was and still am having such bad headaches and the scan showed something they were not sure of. Turned out it wasn't a brain tumor or MS. I have a problem in my neck and spinal cord.

I see you are getting good responses but I had to chime in too. I'm going through a similar situation. Five years now, partly because of insurance problems. Every doctor I've had has floated MS out there, but noone has been able to lock down the diagnosis. I asked a question on here recently and someone told me it can take years for the first real scarring to appear that they are looking for in the MRI. My neurologist is just about ready to do a Lumbar Puncture, which apparently is the only way to catch the elevated myelin levels associted with MS. I wish you luck and hope you don't have to suffer the not-knowing as long as I have.

I really hope your MRI gives you a proper diagnosis for your problem, Koala - at least if you know what you are dealing with, you'll be better equipped to treat it. I've never had an MRI, but I imagine it would be a worrying experience. Good luck with your new doctor - I hope he's better than the last one!

Not knowing is definitely the worst part. As you said, once I get a diagnosis then I'll finally be able to get some sort of treatment. Currently, I am just taking a prescription to treat my symptoms of nerve pain. Not sure how much good it is actually doing. I think it makes me more tired than anything.

I had one of these about a year ago, I went to what is called an open MRI machine, it wasn't to bad. I kept my eyes closed because I can't stand closed spaces. I hope they find some answers for you. blessings

Hi savypat - Thanks for your thoughts. I hope they find out what is going on soon too. I have had several MRIs in the past for this same problem and I only had difficulty during one of them. My symptoms were really bad at that particular time and I had extreme difficulty staying still during the test. I got very anxious and was crying and just wanted to scream. They almost had to call off the test but I was able to finish it luckily because at that time the thought of repeating it was too much to consider. I didn't want to have to go through it all over again. Jill

Just had my MRI yesterday. I go to see a nureopsycologist (sp?) to see if it could be MS. I'm working on year 7, maybe it'll be Lucky number 7 and someone will name what's wrong with me. My mom just got a name for the issues she's been dealing with for 30 plus years. We see the same doc so maybe it'll work out for me faster. I can hope. Let's share what we find out as we go along... maybe the ideas one gets will help the other.... I wish you all the luck!

Oh my goodness TLChimes - I just passed the 2 year mark and I'm about going out of my mind not knowing. I definitely feel for you and I do hope year 7 is the charm for you. What are your symptoms? Mine started just over two years ago when I awoke and my right foot was slightly numb (like I slept on it wrong). I didn't think much of it and continued with my day. However, it never went away and the next morning the numbness had moved up my leg. It kept progressing and eventually also developed in my other leg too. Weakness, pain, etc etc. I could go on and on but that would take forever. I have also had mild numbness & weakness that comes & goes in my left hand & forearm and some tingling sensations on my lips & left side of my face. When is your appt with the neuropsychologist? Keep me updated as to how you are doing & I will do the same. Maybe we can commiserate together! Jill

Hi, Jill! I only had that CT scan once in 1994 and a week after that my MS was confirmed through a lumbar tap. I can do with all those mild symptoms, the weakening and numbing of legs and arms but I pray i won't suffer the paralysis again. I just had my glasses changed last Monday, my first step in trying to eliminate the possible causes of my mild headaches for a straight ten days. I didn't have one today so i decided not to see a neurologist yet. I hope i won't ever need to consult one for a long time. I'm still okay, the virus is sleeping and i hope it will stay asleep and will not bother me for the rest of my life. I am glad to hear of your progress with the health insurance and i hope somebody out there will finally discover the cure for MS.

Thanks for thinking of me alexandra777. I am glad to hear that your MS is "sleeping" for now. I have my MRI tomorrow morning, bright and early. I will let you know what I find out. I am sure I won't hear any results from my doctor until next week. I hate having to wait over the weekend for test results. :(

i did a long time ago..i was having severe migraines, and they wanted to make sure i didn't have a tumor or something(it was negative). they gave me a radioactive dye though that made me horrendously ill.i'd make sure you're not allergic to it before you have the MRI if they intend to use it with you.

I've had one a year for the last 5 years... originally had a brain tumor that was surgically removed and the subsequent MRI's were to follow if it is growing back after radiation treatments. I hate them,,, have to be sedated to stay in that tunnel for an hour, but at least the crummy thing hasn't started growing again. HOpefully it won't, but I have to have an MRI every year to to make sure. Hope you are okay.

You sound like you have the same doctor that my friend has. She has been told that she might have MS too. They said she has all the signs of having it. They have being doing all sorts of tests for about 2 years now. She also had a spinal tap done. Still no one can say for sure if it's MS. I don't understand why the doctor's can't detect it better.

Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease...It leads to paralysis..Though the treatments are a bit difficult but they are curable if taken proper medicines and under the guidance of a good doctor..There is nothing to worry about MRI..It is almost like the ultrasonography which allows the doctors to get a glimpse of the inside of your brain with the help of magnetic resonance... So just be brave and go for the treatments..You will be allright..All the very best to you!!
