Let's do some exercise, NOW..........will you?

Sit straight on a chair. Turn your face to the right slowly, come back to the original position, turn to left slowly and come back. Bend your head backwards as far as you can and come back to original position. Repeat this 6-10 times as often as you can in between your work. The neck is most neglected. Our face ends till the chin! We hardly take care of our neck. But the task it carries, day in and day out, is most important. And also the skin around the neck is very delicate and susceptible to wrinkles and darkness under bad posture, sun and neglect. We must moisturize and exercise and pamper our necks. So what are you waiting for? Will you join me to some neck exercise NOW??

Hi Mimpi, I felt like I was in aerobatic making steps. That is a good thing to do. We hardly take care of our body and specially the neck. These are the important free hand exercise that we can do easily without much pain.

Hi Mimpi, This is funny, I'm actually doing it right now, following your every instruction! My co-worker just gave me that odd look LOL. But yes, the neck deserves to be taken cared of just like what we do with our other body parts. Thing is, we normally give importance to those that make us look attractive - the face, waistline, legs, the behind, and the upper front, neglecting some parts that are functional but not as "ornamental" as the others like the neck. The neck permits movement, accepts weight transmission and supports the vertebrae (now a little science there). Indeed the neck deserves to be pampered too. Going back to the exercise... it really feels good. I should do this more often LOL.

LOL...That's the spirit Doryvien! I think you are spot on with your analysis. The work that the neck is supposed to do indeed we do not pay it back enough. Better late than never.

Well of course, my friend. This is great, how clever of you to have thought of taking care of our necks. I agree, really it is most neglected so count me in with this exercise.

I work out my neck probably on a regular basis, with out doing them I dont think that I could get through the day with out doing them my neck tenses up way to easily. I was always told that doing that decreases the chances of having a turkey neck when your older lol.

Thanks Mimpi! I gave it a try and I will be doing it a lot more often. It loosens the tight muscles too. I used to include neck exercises in my regime years ago but as of late I have been forgetting the regime itself! My husband fixed my old bicycle so I don’t have excuses not to ride my bike although it is winter here...OK I’ll warm up by riding faster and when I get home I will definitely give my neck a little workout! Thanks again for a great tip!

Now..Why not ? Can we have some music as well along with the exercise ? I need this at work the most, because of the extremely cramped postion that i work in. Although i get to do it a few times, i invariably feel the stiffness at the end of the day. Thanks for bringing this up, because i know what problems with a stiff neck one go through. I had one for 3 months and needed extensive physiotherapy to set it right. The underlying cause may have been something else, but as you have so rightly put it, we tend to neglect the neck region. And it feels good too, to get some of the tension released off the region.

Hi Mimpi! Many thanks for reminding us that we need to exercise our neck, as it is one of the most important body parts of ours. We being careless, sometimes takes less care of our most important body parts such as neck and feet. Our feet carry entire burden of our body, however, we remain indifferent towards our feet. You have given a very bright idea to mobilise our neck, however the problem is if I start doing it, while sitting in between my colleagues in my office, all eyes will turn towards me and they will say - "Are you OK, Deepak"[em]lol[/em]. I can do the exercise, when no one is around or I can do it when I involve and request other colleagues to do the same, as I am doing. I have taken note of your useful suggestion and I will implement it as soon as possible. Good Post!

I think it has to start somewhere and I am sure your colleagues would understand the need of it. keep doing it and keep reminding others.

I am also guilty of the fact that we sometimes neglect our neck part. But now I am making up for all my short comings before. I always start moisturizing amd massaging from my neck going up to my face. In this way I will not forget it. I also wear a shawl sometimes to protect my neck from the sun's damaging rays.
@mimpi1911 (25464)

That's a good thing to do. The sun does a lot of damage and we must take care of or neck and other parts just as we do of our face.

cute. I do exercise while watching tv. When a commerical comes on I will do sit ups or leg lifts. I try and do 100 sit ups a day if not more. I even do it sometimes while my shows are on. Since I can lay, watch tv and pick my head up. I found this really awesome sit up where you put your legs to your chest and do crunches. It feels awesome.

I do this exercise regularly during the day as my neck gets really sore if I do not do it! The head is a pretty heavy thing, so you need to take care of the neck muscles so that it can continue to hold your head up correctly! I do these stretches first thing in the morning before I stretch any other part of my body. I do it many times during the day in front of the computer and also while waiting at traffic lights in the car! I also need to do this while I am doing Archery (which I do regularly as a sport), as Archery involves lots of time with your neck twisted sideways!
