Do you go to High School reunions?

My graduation class will be having its, uhhh, well the 35th (I can't believe it) reunion. Instead of the usual dinner and dance at a nice restaurant, they are having a weekend reunion. Starting with a cookout on Friday evening, which everyone can bring their families to. Then Sat. will be a shopping for the gals and golfing for the guys afternoon. Sat. night will be the usual dinner/dance. I'm wondering if people will go to this, and if they do why. A friend made an interesting comment to me that she already saw the people she cared about and why would she go to see people she wasn't friends with and that didn't care about her in high school. This really got me thinking. Is a class reunion just a show off time? Maybe an adult version of a popularity contest? Do people go that haven't been successful? Now I have to decide if I'm going. It really doesn't seem like it has been 35 years since I was in high school.

Hello Sherry, I passed out of high school six years back and we have had a reunion once. I was not in town so I could not attend it. However, I am not too keen on attending reunions because I am already in touch with my friends at that time and I do not really care to meet up with everyone and anyone. Most of my batchmates have left the town as well so not even one third of the batch is available.

hi sherry! for me high school reunion is cool! me if given a chance i would love to attend on it...not for the people who don't care about me on those high school days, but for people who cares for me, like my friends! i graduated from high school i think for more than 10 years now but didn't have any reunion yet...but i am looking forward to it...i miss my classmates and friends and i think its the best time to be with them again and enjoy...and having our family in it will add the fun... i am excited to see my friends after ten years and how they are and also would love to meet their families... i think we can't really avoid that "show off" time and it happens anywhere and in any party, just remember that you are going there to meet old friends...and have fun... have a nice day!

I have only had one high school reunion so far and it didnt happen! I received a message saying it was happening last July and where it would be held, etc. The person in charge just dropped off the face of the earth and at the last minute it was discovered that the reunion would not be happening even though many people, including myself, had made our summer plans around the reunion. A lot of people got mad at her and won't talk to her anymore for ruining everyone's summer and I think she deserves it! I was looking forward to the reunion!

Nah! I just don't like going to reunions because I think that is the time wherein many plastic people come over and do their "senseless" thingy! Hehe! Besides I also don't have close friends back in highschool. Hehe! Happy MyLotting!

I just posted this question under the category "high school" about 30 minutes ago. I am not sure if I will go but will most likely be expected to help organize it. There is only a handful of people I care to see and someone I don't. Not because I don't like the person, but because I like them too much. I am not sure if I could handle it. Of course there is a chance the person won't come. Yeah but I think in a way it could be seen as a popularity contest. People asking you what you do for a living if you are married, have kids, went to college, etc. Sure they are just trying to make small talk or maybe see how successful you are. f course I don't think success should be measured by the job and salary you have, but that is me. I don't really care what people think. So the only reason I may go is to see those few people I care to see. It will not be until next year so we'll see.

well, i for one would definitely go for the reunion. there are so many of my school friends that i have not been in touch with. it would be amazing to go back and meet all of them. the last time, i went a lot of people did not turn p. so, that was a bit of a disappointment. but, otherwise nothing like being able to meet old friends again.

I was very surprised when I went to my 15th reunion in 2005 that many that wouldn't have given me the time of day in high school, now had much more in common with me now. We have talked weekly, and one girl daily since then. People change, and you should at least give them the benefit of the doubt. Not everyone goes for the reason of making it a popularity contest.

That's really good to keep in touch with school-mates. I have not made it to the reunions, but I do try to keep in touch by mail, phone, email, as often as I can. Friends are friends always !

I graduated over 30 yrs ago and haven't been to a reunion. Actually, I never heard there WAS a reunion, but I probably wouldn't have gone even if I did. I heard later that there was a reunion and wondered why I hadn't received an invitation. My mother still had the same last name as I did in high school and lived in the same house that I did for all 18 yrs until I left to join the Marine Corps, so it's not like someone couldn't have found me through a letter to my last known address at my mom's. I mentioned it to her one day and she really didn't say anything, so I'm betting I did get some mail there and she probably tossed it. Would be just like here, LOL. At any rate, I doubt I would have gone. I left home straight from graduation to join the Marine Corps so I really had no ties there any longer. I wasn't popular and had few friends and even lost touch with those shortly thereafter and didn't have anything in common with any of them. I saw no reason to want to reassociate myself with a time that wasn't very pleasant in my life.

No, I will not. the main reason, I hate my life there. I don;t really looking forward to see them and have a conversation and laugh, no, not now, but maybe once I'm settle down, I might changed my mind. I don't like thinking much about my life there.

I must admit that I havent been to one ever ,for some strange reason I havent gotten into .One day however ,I hope that I will get into that practice .I think however that often it is overfluffed and is an opportunity for people to boast on their achievements to other and not a way for people to keep in touch

Honestly I believe most people just go to reunions to see who got fat, who is divorced and whose life is going down hill, becuase if there was someone you've been missing from high school or college you know you can find them. But its up to you if you want to reconnect with old friends then go right ahead.

I just had my 1st year away from High School and no way do I want to go back. Just like your friend, I see the people I want to see, why would I want to go see those awkward people that I never really talked to in High School. I had a large graduating class of probably four hundred graduates, give or take a few. It amazes me that some try to add me to facebook now, after we've both graduated, and for the four years while we were in High School, we never talked. But on the other hand there are those who I see at my University now, who I was never friends with in High School but we get a long great now! So it all depends on how I feel in 10-15 years I guess, when we actually have a reunion.
