i want to loose some weight and tone up by an exercise that i would enjoy doing and that would be swimming. but will it really help? because some say that swimming will make me look bigger just like the professional swimmer's bodies. big in the arms, back and thighs. =( i feel discouraged. i love to swim. but i don't want to look any bigger.

Swimming will definitely help you lose weight, i had my swimming lesson years ago and i lost weight without even dieting. I dont know about being bigger maybe because of the muscle mass but I only see those on professional swimmers those who really compete that's only because they swim a lot and they also lift weights. So if you're not gonna do it several hours a day then i don't think you'll be bigger.

I think that swimming would be a great way to loose weight. I don't think that it would make a bigger body. It might tone the body and make it look fit and healthy. It is possible to swim at a swimming pool and they might even offer exercise classes in the water. If you did that as well as swimming you could loose much weight. You might be able to swim at a beach if you live near the sea. I live on the edge of a coastal town but the tide is dangerous there and there is sinking mud. So I go to swimming pools instead. Good luck to you with loosing some weight.

It will tone your body and help to burn calories. Only if you do really intense swimming will it give you muscile bulk. Similarly, when I went to the gym I did not gain muscle in any notable way. Mostly my body toned up and I looked thinner. Post-gym, I was a stone heavier than I was when I last fit in my 'thin' clothes (I had not excercised only dieted), but still fitted in them. So, made me thinner.

Yes, I have heard swimming is a good sport to loose weight. But I can't remember where I heard it. I don't think swimming will make you look bigger, it's true that we appear bigger when we are under water but I'm quite certain that will you not look bigger by swimming. I hope this has helped you.

Welcome - Welcome to myLot
Swimming will assist with losing weight, but a balance diet and consistency will also go together.
If you consistently swim you will burn many calories but if you go to the nearest fast food and over do it then there goes your workout for the day. As for looking bigger, not so unless you apply heavy deep strokes on a consistent swim workout I can't imagine the body getting bigger.
Good luck with the swimming, if anything you will feel great as it is great cardio.
