I just heard about this and I am astounded and confused. The Zodiac has been changed!! AND a NEW one has been added? How does this happen?
http://www.fox23.com/news/local/story/Whats-Your-Sign-It-Could-Have-Changed/EAJvf0z93Eeqjb2OR7RW7Q.cspx
Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18 - May 13
Taurus: May 13 - June 21
Gemini: June 21 - July 20
Cancer: July 20 - Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10 - Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 - Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 - Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 - Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 - Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 - Jan. 20
I was born a LEO and very proud to be a Leo. But now I find out that I may or may not be anymore. My birthday is August 10 So according to this new chart I could be a Cancer or I could still be a Leo. Or does it mean that I am both? Perhaps I am a Cancerous Leo? And if I am a diseased lion does that make me one sick pu$$y? LMAO
My son is also confused! His birthday is July 20. So is he a Gemini or a Cancer or both?
And whats with this new 13th zodiac? Is it pronounced [Oh-Fu*k-Us]? Where did it come from?
Does anyone know what it means for those of us who's birthday falls on a start/end date?

We are doing the wrong kind of web searches? LOL
Maybe we're just hearing about it now because the Astrologers of the world can't keep the info under wraps anymore..............
I always thought I was a Virgo with Leo rising. Seems now, I'm just a Leo too. lol
But I'll always think of myself as a Virgo. My Dad's a Leo and so is my best friend, but I'm rather different from them, so this new info just puts all our perceptions into confusion.

I just looked over what Ophiuchus is in Wikipedia. It's a constellation that lies in the southern hemisphere which is in between Scorpio and Sagittarius. Ophiuchus constellation lies opposite of Orion. They say it means as the 'serpent-bearer' or formerly known in English as Serpentarius. If the 13th Zodiac sign does exist, then I'd belong to it.. Whatever that is, I still believe I'm Sagittarius.. ^_^

yeah apparently it was named after Imhotep of ancient Egypt
why didnt they just call it Imhotep?

He probably didn't name it after an Egyptian because he himself was a Roman citizen. The name Ptolemy was used by many of the upper class citizens after Alexander conquered Egypt, and the Egyptians began using the title Ptolemy after 30BC when Egypt became a province.
The constellation was never named Imhotep. I was part of the Serpens and named Serpentarius originally as Di pointed out already. Again, to fully know what planets, stars, and sun sign you are and how they play out one needs to have a fully natal chart done.

Does that still make me a Sagittarius? I was born before this astronomical phenomenon occurred.

Why don't they change and/or add a new birthstone instead? I would like a different birthstone. Mine is a garnet. Ugh! They are the color of dried blood!

Well, by these dates, I'm still a Leo anyway. I guess the dates just aren't written in stone, and slowly change over time as the earth 'wobbles'. But I still like wtl's pronounciation for the new sign. lmao

Annie-
Check out the links I just posted. It's not a complete crock, it's just that not all Western Astrologist use a Sidereal chart.

The pronunciation is located on the Wikipedia article I posted. It's not what the person or Fox stated it was. Perhaps Fox News needs a linguist on staff?

Yay for grandfather clauses! I'm keeping my sign, no matter what. I -like- my sign, since it's already all screwed up and somehow so appropriate for me.
Also, lmao wonttakelong to the diseased lion remark. I so want to quote that on my facebook page, just to see reactions. ::snicker::

I'm not sure they can just change it all up like that - but of course that's spoken like a true leo! LOL! I am a leo at heart and it describes me perfectly. Which is why I remain unaffected by the changes as I don't really buy all of it anyway! (see.. told you I'm a leo!)

Hi Wonttakelong,
Well, nothing changes for me...I'm still a taurus. As for those that fall on the end date that would be like someone on the cusp. My guess would be that you'd have some strong traits from both signs?? I really don't know. How do they change up the Zodiac? That's like re-writing the bible.

HI Wonttakelong,
I have no idea how many times the bible has been re-written but a lot.Ok so I'm blonde...guess that wasn't a good example.
Anora, Thanks for the info! I really didn't know about this other zodiac until I read it here. I don't watch Fox so missed their breaking news on it. Thanks...I always learn from you.

Sid-
The two zodiacs have been around for the same time length. This is just another star moment for Fox who had nothing else to report on other then the fact that one of them just realized that the Sidereal zodiac has existed for the same time as the Tropical zodiac. I suppose it's why I take anything Fox states with a grain of salt.

Weren't there enough problems without them needing to tell us this too? It's like taking away the soil from under our feet How can you be one thing one day and then another the next just because they decide to let us know that things aint what they seemed to be? Where I am I supposed to read the horoscope every morning now that I am no longer, according to this, Acquarius?
Fraud! Off with their heads!

Oh yes Anora, I am aware that the newspaper horoscopes are too vague and generalised to have amything realistic in them. I have my natal chart which was done professionally.
Alice I guess it's warmer down there these days

Diana-
It's just typical of FoxNews. It's not "fraud", it's that we typically follow the Tropical Zodiac here in the west though there are a few Western astrologers who use the Sidereal. It's all on which type of astrologer you go to. And the "newspaper" horoscopes are not accurate anyway because each person has their own natal chart with their own influences. It's quite complex.

Hey wtl! I am as confused as you are! And. WTF? I was born a
Libra, and now I am a Virgo! I think not. Who decided to screw
up the Astrological Signs after all these years and why now?
I read the bs, but don't get it! How do you suddenly decide
to change someones sign! I don't fit Virgo! I am totally off
balance as any "true Libra" should be. I can't change now, I'm
too friggen old and screwed up! What can we do to fix this
disaster?

It's not a new constellation and some astrologers are already aware of it. It is just that hasn't made the mainstream Western conception of astrology. The constellation was listed by Ptolemy in his 48 constellations. So, it's been there, it's been spoken about, and it's been looked at. This is nothing very new.
You can check out this entry that describes it in general: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiuchus (Check out the citation list)
http://www.lunarplanner.com/siderealastrology.html
In terms of this changing all things, well this is something that most astrologers and occultist have been aware of for almost all of time. It is why Aeons are presided by their respective zodiacal ruler and these change approximately ever 2000 years.
In terms of being both signs this occurs to anyone who is born on the cusp. It is called a "cusp sign" and those born on the cusp generally have traits from both zodiac signs.
Your typical daily horoscope is not entirely accurate. To get a better sense of how the signs of the zodiac might influence you you'd need to look at a detailed natal chart. Then you have to look at all of the signs on a given day, their positions in the sky, and how they might influence you on any given day. Astrology is extremely detailed and not as cut and dry as people make it out to be.
If you want a good site try http://www.astro.com/ for a look at just what people are looking at when they speak about astrological signs, and how they effect us on a given day.
It's a mistake to say that astrology hasn't evolved in the last 2000 years. And what do you expect from Fox News?

If the one link was too difficult to understand the tropical verses the sidereal here is a short article I think you'll enjoy.
http://www.mybirthchart.com/hotfaq.aspx
The bottom line is the tropical is not fixed, and the sidereal is fixed. Have fun.

this is interesting... i had always been a scorpion all my life and now i am a libra... and i realise that with the new zodiac, scorpion has the shortest range of days (only 6 days)... anyway, i'm not really into horoscope and never really pay much attention to this... but it is interesting to know... take care and have a nice day...

Your sun sign never changes. You are not now a libra. You were born into the sun sign scorpio because that was the sun sign at the time of your birth. If you want a full list I'd suggest having someone do your Natal chart so you can see your exact signs and alignments at the moment of your birth. Even if the Tropical alignments change, your birth charts never change. They are fixed.

Oh weird... the dates do overlap! Hmmm... that is confusing. I was a Leo too but now I'm a Cancer. My birthday is Aug. 7th (close to yours!). The only thing with me is I never though it really fit my personality. I'll have to read up on the Cancer sign and see what it says.

Koala-
You are still a Leo because that was the ruling sign at the time of your birth, though to be certain of that you would need to have a full natal chart done.

Missy-
There are two forms of the Western Zodiac: The Tropical (the one we typically follow), and the Sidereal. They are both valid, but the Tropical does change as the Earth's tilt changes. The Sidereal stays fixed. Of course, what was typical of FoxNews is they treat this like it's something new (it's not, quite old actually), and they forget about all the other zodiacal studies.

I am a proud Leo as well. I am not really affected by this news if it is true or not for i still will be Leo no matter what astrologers have to say. I think this news needs more study and it's a bit confusing as what you have pointed out, we can not have two Zodiac signs at the same time right? I mean that is just not accurate. I have heard that the 13th sing is a star which was already in the constellation but wasn't included in the zodiac signs because there should only be 12. Well i am not 100% sure of what i have heard but it's what i understood.
