I have two rants! LOL

The first one is on packaging. I have bought a few things lately that it's almost impossible to get them open without using a knife and taking your life into your own hands! LOL...like DVD' and my cartridges for my cricut! It's not like I am going to steal them in the store...and when I do get them home it's so hard to get them open! The second one is I bought a desk lamp a long time ago at Walmart...well it was supposed to use 40 watt bulbs...I bought three different types of 40 watt bulbs and none of them fit!!! They were either too long.....to small where you screw in...but for one reason or another none of them fit! I looked at Walmart and also bought one of the types they offered and it didn't fit either. If you are going to sell a product...people should be able to use it! I am throwing it in the garbage unused as I lost the reciept! Wake up manufactures!

Seems like they got their money either way so they are ok. On a serious note, the bulbs will be stated on the box what they are(size) so you can look there. I recently bought a lamp and it came with the bulbs inside so lets hope it lasts a while.

It said to use a 40 watt...well there are only a few that are 40..some are the small bulbs that are for small lamps but this one has where you screw it in...it needs a reg. size bulb...and if I get that then the bulb is too long it fit inside.

Oh you poor thing! I'd be mad at that darn lamp too, though Walmart usually accepts returns even without a reciept. I noticed some DVDs are slightly easier to open these days. Some of them come with like a little tab you pull and the plastic wrapping comes right off. Of course then you have the stickers holding the DVD closed!

What? You're kidding, you bought a lamp that no bulb fits into? Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? I would, that is if they are still in business after making a lamp no bulb fits into.. I hear you about the packages that are hard to open. Sometimes I have to borrow my husband or sons box cutter to open some packages, it is ridiculous..

Yup, I know what you're talking about. I remember quite a few items that had packaging like that, and you're lucky if you don't ruin it by opening it. As far as the light bulbs, I just had the same problem not too long ago with a new lamp I bought. I had a heck of a time finding a light bulb that fit and I thought I was losing my mind, haha. And it was where you screwed it in, and like you, I tried 3 different types but one finally did fit, barely. Yes, I wish these manufacturers would get their crap together already.

Ugh! That IS annoying! I can't figure out why they have to package things so tightly that you cannot CUT the package open, or inside it, everything is adhered to the packaging with tape and/or those stupid little twist tie things, and we're not talking a few strips of tape and a few twist ties, we're talking like an EXCESSIVE ROLL of tape and 25 twist ties lol. I was at a birthday once and the poor kid burst into tears because it was taking Dad like 15 MINUTES to get all the packaging off the toy - oh and Dad also cut his finger. Nice, huh? The bulb thing is annoying too, I think they should be universal size in the bottom OR the package should tell you EXACTLY the size base AND watt you need. If it doesn't, it's misleading and you end up wasting money on multiple bulbs.

I agree with the twisty things too! My granddaughter had the same feelings at CHristmas....took so darn long to undo all the packaging! It was frustrating!

Getting old is so much fun. i would try taking that stupid light back receipt or not. That's ridiculous. Thanks for my letter. i enjoyed it alot.

As you can see by my late response, I'm still catching up from my ten day break from mylot. But I totally agree with your rants! They are justified! It's ridiculous how hard it is to open packages anymore. They aren't just child proof, they are adult proof. It practically takes a magician to open something without using extreme measures!

I bought my son a game system at the store today (it was a $26.00 marked down to $2.49) and i thought the child was going to put my eye out trying to open it in the truck! Of course he could'nt use it until he got it home and hooked up to the t.v. but still ... So your right that is a worthy rant. As for the lamp i bought my mama one and we ended up having to get bulbs from home depot to fit it. Of course we ended up having to use outdoor christmas bulbs in her ceiling fan (it maked no sense to me either).

So true about the packaging problem. I keep a box cutter here on my desk to use for such and a small paring knife to open regular envelope mail. Even using the box cutter it is difficult to cut into some of those stiff molded plastic coverings and I have to be careful not to cut fingers. I wouldn't throw away the lamp just yet. Sometimes WalMart will take back items even without a receipt. It usually depends on whether the customer service clerk knows for sure that your item came from that store. The light bulb problem is one of my rants since our government is now saying we must buy only those squiggly energy saver bulbs. I've tried to stock up on regular incandescent bulbs but they will eventually wear out. Those energy-savers are so much more expensive.

Excellent rant!! I know that one...I despise the way they package dvd's as well...You can never just tear the package open when you get home, you always have to drag out a knife or scissors and cut them open! This packaging is beyond baby proofing, when an adult can't even get into the item! You tell them, people want to use the products they buy, they don't want them just to lay around the house!!

I know what you meaan. Sometimes the packaging is just a deterrent to us opening the product. You could slice your hand open before you get you what bought opened. I don't know why manufacturers can't make more of their packaging user friendly. Are they all afraid we will rip them off it opens too easily?

I am surprised someone hasn't developed a gadget to open these things easily! I hate the fight myself. Figures Walmart would do that. Take it to your local hardware store. They should be able to help! I can't stand labels placed right over important information on the package, on each and every one on the shelf! I also can't stand stickers on merchandise that once brought home it's found it was affixed with some kind of indelible glue!

i agree with you on these... i can understand your frustration as i had encountered the same problems like you in the past... it seems like the manufacturers only care about getting our money and that is all that matters to them... i really get annoyed as well when i come across similar situation like yours... take care and have a nice day...

Both rants sound very annoying. i deal with the packaging one on a daily basis. Not only are those damn things hard to open, but even if you get certain types of plastic packaging opened successfully, you might just cut yourself on the damn plastic. AARRGGHH!!! Annoys the hell out of me!

Hi, Jill That s sometimes the problem with manufacturers, they create a product that has no standard specification that when it is broken, we are having difficulties finding a pare part. Maybe, you can check the products manual and see if it has a particular specs for the diameter of the particular bulb to be use. This will surely teach you a lesson, to always e wary with what we buy or else they will end up into our trash bins.
