i was in a public vehicle this morning and went to the city hall,
and there was a passenger who wear a gold earrings,
when we were at recto, there were two teenagers ride at the back of the vehicle,
it was a little bit of traffic, then the two teenagers went down,
and pulled the earrings of the woman very fast,
and all of us were just shock and cant even shout out to ask help.
i was nervous and told to myself not to wear expensive jewelries when i am in public.
have you ever been experience or encounter this situation?
are you brave to wear expensive jewelries in public places?

That is just stupid. Recto isn't a place to wear gold jewelries. It's a place where snatchers roam around. Wearing expensive jewelries, bags, bracelets, watches, or just simply bringing out your mobile phone is too dangerous when you're there. Whenever I go there or even pass by, I don't bring out my phone, I hide my wrist watch, and look around for possible snatchers waiting for a prey. These people are fast and well-experienced and what they're doing is well thought of so there really is no other option but to accept that you lost your stuff.

i agree with frontvisions101...
actually there is no place safe anymore because snatchers, pickpockets and hold-uppers are just everywhere these days...
even if you don't show your belongings in public there is still the risk of being mugged...
i've had this experience where i am on a bus on my way home from fairview, along commonwealth 3 ordinary lucking men boarded the bus i was on... one declared a hold-up while his 2 companions roamed the isle with plastic bags collecting our belongings...
i don't look well-off, heck, i was just carrying my schoolbag at the time but they decided to take my bag... i just gave it to them without a fuss because i don't want further mishaps that can result to much worst...

Yeah, just give it to them without giving a hint that you're upset or anything or they might hurt you or something. We're actually taught this in my self-defense class during highschool. The instructor said that you don't have to fight everytime. Giving your belongings doesn't mean that you're a coward, it means you value your life.

I'm not worried about that kind of theft here, but I wouldn't wear my jewelry into a bad neighborhood, and if I were traveling overseas I'd leave it home.

I do not want to duplicate as I would say the same (lol, no not stalking), as it is really a question of knowing when to and where not to wear expensive anything for that matter.

no. i have had but i didn't wear it and decided to just give it to my mother. i don't know, just not my kind of thing to have in my body. i have bracelets but these are like strings, one of it is a tag from a dress i bought sometime ago. hehehehe.. i don't wear earrings.. nor watch.
i have a toe ring though, bought it last year. actually i buy one every year for my toe. it's a silver toe ring and i guess this is the only thing that came with a bit of a price. hehehehe..
so too bad for those bad people, nothing to get from me.

I have seen this a lot of times already. Not just jewelries but bags, cellphones and hats as well..yes hats! Even hats are stolen here in my place. Anyway, I don't wear any jewelry nor am i exposing my old phone in public. It's just too risky wearing one and end up stolen. Better be more careful than showing off what we got.

Hi asliah, cases of robbery of expensive jewelry in crowded area are heard every now and then in my place. My husband's sister who lives in a big city in the adjacent country encountered the undesired grab of her expensive necklace while she was going to board the bus. When she discovered this the culprit had disappeared in the crowd. Since then she never likes to wear any expensive jewelry anymore.
I don't like to put on expensive jewelry as well. This is the best way to avoid from the awful grab of the bad egg. There are always people having malicious intend to earn their living to rob valuable belonging from the innocent people. They are lurking around among the crowd or at deserted area and we could hardly keep away from them Therefore not to wear expensive and striking jewelry is the best way to avoid our valuable jewelry to be robbed
Happy posting

i don't wear expensive jewelries casually. i'm afraid of losing them. investing in such expensive items are no joke..it usually consumes great amount of time, effort, and hard work before i'm able to buy such things and i don't intend to lose it in just a blink of an eye. i'm blessed and thankful that i haven't actually experienced a traumatic situation like the lady you were talking about, and i hope i don't ever have to be in her shoes. it's better to be cautious. i don't wear expensive jewelries, especially when i'm taking public transportation to work, so i don't attract snatchers and pickpockets.

If I am going to be in a bad area or unsafe area then I think I would leave expensive jewelry at home. For the most part I wear jewelry that is silver and electoplated in gold. I don't spend very much on earrings, etc. The most expensive thing I have is my wedding and engagement rings. If I were travelling overseas or to a bad area I think I would leave my wedding ring at home and just put on a fake one. It's sad that we have to be that way nowadays.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hi Asliah, those two teenagers were really too stupid.
They would get caught sooner or later, since there were so many people there. I think some passengers may even have time to use cellphones to take pictures or video of the happening.
I think they will get a shock when they find that the jewelries are fake.
After all, hardly anyone use real gold earrings and take public transport.

Yes i wear expensive jewelries. But not everywhere or every time. When i attend any any marriage ceremony or very big party then i wear. Otherwise i don't wear. Because i don't like jewelries so much. And i never experience such a situation and i wish i will never. Because it's really scary.

Authentic jewelries should not be worn in public cases cause these attract people with negative interests to grab these valuable things from you. One may still wear jewelries in public, however only those with little value like the fake ones.

I don't really have to worry about that too much where I live. I've never been robbed like that but I have heard that people in my area have been. I wouldn't wear expensive jewelry where I live late at night though because even though I've been lucky so far, it could still happen.
I wear costume jewelry more than real jewelry. The only gold that I wear is a ring that I have and a chain that I wear tucked into my shirt when it's late.
I guess it depends on the area that I'm in. If I feel safe then I'll wear it. If I don't then I would probably take it off. You never know when you can get robbed or pick-pocketed. It can happen anywhere.

I don't own many piece of expensive jewelry. i would probably be afraid to wear them if I did. i would be devastated if i were to lose them. i am just as happy with the inexpensive pieces of jewelry. Most people can't tell the difference.

I am not a jewelries fan and it's hardly to see me wear those things outside.I do not know why i just hate to wear them.Especially gold jewelries.Perhaps it is because of my skin that can deal with gold very well.Anyway that woman was really brave to wear jewelries on that place. Most of the snatchers aimed for jewelries like bracelets, necklace rarely they aimed for earrings. That must be a really attractive earrings till they got attracted to snatched them from her.

Hi asliah,
Your post reminds me of the rampant snatching incident in our city too. I really don't have any expensive jewelry except my PhP 3,600.00 Seiko 5 automatic watch. I always wear it when I go out to work for I am very time-conscious. We can't really be blamed for wearing jewelries in public, especially if it is part of our outfit, right?
Keeping an eye for these kind of people has became a habit for me. If somebody eyes my watch, alarm bells begin ringing and I have to initiate defensive or evasion procedures. I would begin by just meeting them eye to eye as if asking "What?" For some, they would just defuse the situation by asking what time it is.
As I've said, we should not fall victim to our own devices. Wear expensive jewelries but be prepared to defend it in public. Its part of our responsibility.

This isn't new to me anymore. Snatchers and the kinds are everywhere even in my province. This passenger shouldn't have worn that gold earrings especially in that place. Recto is well known for snatching and hold-upping. This would serve as lesson for her and the rest of the bystanders who had witnessed this incident.

No, I don't. I don't wear any jewelry, but I'm planning to buy a necklace. I like necklaces, not other type of jewelry.
