Suddenly I have a drawer full of over 50% more socks again. And no not from going shopping. I have a drawer that I keep just for all mismatched socks and when I finally can't take it anymore or am looking for various socks I have been looking for I go into that draw and start to see if I can match any of the mismatched socks up and low and behold I came up with at least 20 more pairs that match. They are not new though but worn. I still wear them even if they have holes (and most did not), if it's just for bed when it's so cold in the winter. Do you wear socks with holes or do you ditch them in the trash then? How many pairs would you say you have? Do you ever wonder where the socks go in your home or have a place for them like me in another mismatched sock drawer to look through about 2 x a year?

Damn! I was hoping you was a stockings and suspenders gal.
Oh well, I guess the only way I could prove otherwise would be to delve into your drawers, and I am too much of a gentleman to do that.

Suspenders are what holds up the stockings.

I don't usually wear socks with holes in them. I have seen that my grandson will though. We have a round basket we keep on top of the dryer for unmatched socks. We got through it every few months to see if we can find any of the matchs. Luckily we have. I heard George Carlin do a funny skit about where do things go like keys, remotes, socks, etc. It was pretty funny.

Ya, we used the basket for many years. George was great wasn't he?

Socks are one thing that I always seem to run out of the most. I buy a pack once or twice a year but I tend to just use like three or four of the same pair because that is all I can find. I don't have a proper dresser but I am trying to remedy that slowly but surely.
I've thought of buying a bag of different colored ankle socks so they can be matched easier.

A long time ago my sister and I had more of an "antique" dresser, it had a mirror on it too but I think we took that off. It was long and short, so it did take up space, but it did have a lot of storage too. We had our bunkbeds (stacked atop each other of course) the dresser and that was about it. We had the t.v. on top of the dresser. It was a semi big room though as our room has the washer / dryer hook up.

Mine has the mirror still in tact, I wish I could have gotten other things of my Aunt's too at the time but there was a greedy person who did what she wanted with the things and took most others. Supposedly she had a ton of money and even checks still laying around that she never even bothered to cash cause she really didn't need them. Sheesh. Here we were in my dad's house when we were kids struggling with every penny and they had my dad buy a house from them awhile back from that time. I was teased at school for not having the right clothes, and other things that everyone else had. It kind of makes me angry to thin of it still to this day but oh well, it's long gone now those days.

I have been washing my clothes, husbands and kids for the past 40 years and I have never lost a sock or had any mismatched.
Maybe you should get yourself some safety pins. Then when you take them off attach a pin before placing in the hamper. Then when they are washed and dried they are already matched.

Yes I have heard about those safety pins and how it has been suggested to use one of those to keep socks together. I have just never been motivated to use them, I keep worrying about the extra work or losing them. I should just keep some handy and see what happens. I have a few pairs I reeeeeeally hate to loose.

We use to have a big bag of mismatch socks now I just weat them as it is. My mother throws enough of my clothing out so I dont bother buying them until I literally have none. She will keep taking them out of my drawer and saying you have too many or taking 1 sock, then I wont be able to find the other so I throw them out. She has a lot of issues in life, she takes it out on me (she doesnt care my sister has a giant bucket of clothes and 3 dressers of clothes she doesnt wear), she goes through all mine and throw out brand new clothes, and so on. So I dont buy myself anything anymore.

I just don't understand why she thinks she has a right to throw any of your clothes out at all. That just isn't right. It's insane. She does have issues, and I'm sorry to hear it but so does mine. I thought of another term to describe mine and it is called deprivation abuse where she lets my adult brother do whatever he wants here and have this or that, and just does the opposite of me basically. She will make up ridiculous reasons for her doing it too, like because I didn't have many friends growing up or something to that effect. She actually said that to me one day when we were arguing. Cause I didn't have this or that. Then one day she told me I don't have anything (going for me I suppose she meant)! I have no idea why she thinks she is entitled to emotional abuse people. My dad and I have heard so much abuse from her over the years. My brother did when he was young, physical stuff like threats mostly but she seems to feel guilty over that now which is nothing of my fault so I don't have anything to do with it but makes me feel like I do. ??!! I am thinking it is the dementia or Alzheimer's sometimes but perhaps she is that dumb/bullyish as well.

I have a theory on socks, I think the dryer eats them! I use to think that the washer ate them, but to conserve on the electric I hang my clothes. The washer doesn't eat them, because I have matching pairs every time. I'm still hanging on to the mismatched ones in hopes I find their match. Eventually, I'll give up on finding the other sock and use the one and lonely one for a rag!

This happens an awful lot in our house, espically with the school socks!!
What really annoys me is that you hang onto the odd socks for a couple of weeks or more and then throw them away and THEN the other sock is found, and it doesn't matter how long oyu hang on ot the sock, you always find the other one when you throw the sock away.
My washing machine seems to eat socks as well.

Mismatched socks are one of my pet peeves--I just don't understand where they go. Sometimes I find one or two clinging to another piece of laundry, and I'm sure some of the smaller ones (like my kids' socks) can get munched by the washing machine or the dryer but I can't believe it is that many!
I do have a mismatched sock drawer just like you do, and I do eventually end up with some pairs in there. Helps keep me a little saner...LOL!

wow that is good even though its mismatched, you are able to make it appear and you are doing a nice job of finding it back

I have four teenage sons and only the youngest is careful about his socks. The rest are always throwing their socks every where after use, and they don't always make it to the laundry basket in pairs at the same time. Yeah, I just throw the mismatched socks all in one small basket every time I find them. Whenever the kids are running out of clean socks to wear, they'll go to that basket to find a pair. They don't even care if they can't find a matched pair; my three older boys would go out wearing mismatched socks all the time...

Typical boys, one of them is the most neatest and the youngest. That is so funny. At least one of them knows the importance of matched socks. Baskets do work, I should get one as soon as some of this junk is cleared away here. Your sons are cool when they don't care if their socks match, maybe they just aren't judged at school or care enough to take the time to be "perfect".

When my washing is dry I always sort the socks into pairs. It can easily happen that one stays hidden in the drum of the washing machine. My husband believes in lost socks but I have seen his sock drawer and it is a mess.
There was a time when we used to mend the holes in socks, it was a nice pasttime in front of the fire in the winter. If it was done well it was quite a satisfying job. Now however the socks are not usually made with real wool and these synthetic ones do not give themselves to a nice darning effort. If the hole is in the toe I throw it away because I hate the feel of a toe poking through. If it is small I might just tolerate it in bed.

I have a basket of solo socks. I use the material for craft projects. I don't let anything go to waste. Socks get caught in other laundry. They get holes in them and thrown out. The get left in the laundry room washer or dryer because you don't look well enough. Many things can happen.

Those baskets do come in handy, only if I had a place to put those here. I try not to let anything go to waste here either and if I do by accident I get upset about it. I should throw 'some' of my very old and worn socks out as they do take up some room in my dresser and really don't need them now.

my sister has a clear bag hanging from the doorknob to stuff those in and my first job when i visited her was to dump them on the bed and match them. some are simply hopeless, forever orphans. some don't look like perfect matches anymore because one still looks new while the other looks frayed and faded. i live in a hot country so i only wear socks when i wear sneakers or when it's cold at night like during the rainy season and from december to february.

In warmer countries people don't usually use socks much, that is true. I thnk your sister's idea is perfect though. I have some hopeless ones here too and when the occasion frayed and holey unmatched sock appears I occasionally throw one out, but it's rare LOL.

LOL, i remember something about the socks, that my mother told me. I don't like to wear old, worn out and with holes socks going to school. I really had a long face when my mother forced me to wear them (I have no choice after all). Then she told me "You have a problem with socks and shoes that can still be worn and can still be used but don't you think of other children without feet?) Fine... mothers are mothers and always be mothers. LOL. Another story, yes I worn mismatched socks but, they are both plain black. From afar, it was not obvious, but a closer look, my goodness, so embarrassing, they have different texture and shades.

No I never wear those socks when going to school or work either, that wouldn't be a nice form of attire at all. I wear them at home alot cause I work at home and so it's fine that way. Haha, yea some mothers will find any excuse to tell their kid to wear what they wear in their own ways. Awe, I'm sure it wasn't that bad though wearing those socks. I wore high waters to school a few times and was teased for that. Pants that just weren't long enough for my legs that is, and I remember one girl saying "Where's the flood?" so many times. She was a bully. I disliked her very much and still think she's a jerk even if it was when we were kids.
