Busy morning today, I had no time left to log into myLot. First thing in the morning, we have replaced our network printer. I imagine that you all know that it's never quick and easy as it should be, but now it's up and working. Later, I have put up the Christmas decorations, the tree and the crib, I still need to add some garlands and lights, but almost everything is ready for the celebrations. How do you decorate your home?

A printer should be the easiest peripheral of all to set up, but I agree that it can be a real pain at times. Sometimes the network sharing settings decide to be awkward, which can take a lot of playing about to correct.

This one asked if I wanted to decide the IP address, but insisted to set its own IP that I did not want because it was in conflict with another peripheral... I finally changed the one of the other peripheral.

@LadyDuck Surely DCHP should eliminate that possibility because the router should not allocate a currently used IP address.

@Asylum My husband wants that every computer and peripheral has a fixed IP address, it usually works very well, this machine does not want the one he had in mind.

We like a fresh tree so it's still too early for us.

You are right, for a fresh tree you need to wait, or it will dry inside the house.

I love to put up a lot of pine branches. Everywhere I can find a place. I love the smell. I like lights inside and out. With LED now days they are great and energy savers. Candy add a bit of sparkle and warmth I think. I make a wreath out of branches and add some mistletoe and poinsettia.

I have cut some branches from our holly tree, they are shiny and look very nice arranged with pine cones and red candles.

our decorations are pretty basic - card lines on the walls, a tree in the two main downstairs rooms, lights and ornamental snowmen in the windows

I've talked about and shown photos of my decorations and I'm done...now we need to clean the kitchen floor with Bono and then I can put down my new rugs. I wanted to wait until the decorating was finished.

@LadyDuck Is replacing a rug a tradition too? My rug also needs replacing so this might be just the right time to do so.

I used to put up a tall tree, but now I keep the decoration minimal, so it's easier to remove everything when Christmas is over.

@LadyDuck I had a huge tree with attached lights. It was gorgeous. I gave it to my sister who lives in a three generation household. They love it.

I am getting ready too. Have just put up the tree which need a bit of finishing touches. There is so much more to do. Planning for the party for poor kids is quite a handful.

My brother does the decorating and our apartment looks so pretty. His Christmas trees always look like they came out of a magazine.

We used to have a bigger tree when I was younger, but now a small tree s enough for us, just to have a festive feeling.

@LadyDuck If I lived alone I either wouldn't have a tree at all or I would have a smaller tree also.

The most exhausting part is searching the boxes in the basement to find the decorations.

We put up a majority of our decorations on Sunday. The tree, the wreath outside, the festive table runners and several of my table/shelf decorations. I still need to put the fragile/glass ornaments on the tree. The kids decorated the bottom of the tree with the decorations that would not break. I will also put lights on the front window. I always set up a small town on the window ledge and then put white lights around the town and around the window.

We used to make the nativity scene, I had nice Italian statuettes, but this takes a lot of time and now I prefer to keep the decoration minimal.

We put up our tree yesterday, it is the same one as last year but we gave it new lights and it looks quite different now. I still have some ornaments to sort out but we had visitors all day yesterday so I have to content myself with just the tree for the moment.

We have a smaller, probably about a 5 1/2 foot tall artificial tree in our home. We put it on a short table in our family room. We have a snowman and Santa collection, I put these pieces out on our buffet in the dining room. I've taken a lot of years to collect these pieces and they are all so different and unique. We also have a very large nativity scene that we put out last night. The pieces all stand anywhere from about 8 inches to a foot tall and are made of ceramic. Right now, there are just the oxen, and cattle and the manger, we'll add the Mary and Joseph in time, then the shepherds and the baby for the manager on Christmas eve. Shortly after that we have a camel and the 3 wise men to add.

I have very old nativity statues that were given to my grandfather many years ago, I used to make the nativity scene, but it takes too much space.

@LadyDuck You are correct, it does take up a lot of space. This year we put ours in our bay window, which is 10 feet wide, it looks nice with the outdoors as the background.
