Creme caramel and strawberry tart

We are doing our journey through Ireland and France on a bit of a shoestring so we are mostly cooking for ourselves. A small fortune can go on coffees and the odd cake so we mostly cook for ourselves with just an occasion splurge on a bought meal. One of the splurges was for a crème caramel and a strawberry tart. I thought I should share a photo with you. Vince had eaten half of his before I remembered I wanted a photo. My crème caramel was heavenly and I’ve been looking out for a second one ever since. And don't worry - we won't restrict ourselves too much.

This is not a crème caramel but a crème brûlée Judy, the taste is the same, but the crème caramel has liquid caramel, while the crème brulée has a burned crust of sugar on top. I join a photo of the crème caramel to show the difference.

@JohnRoberts My mother in law made the best, my husband prefers the crème brûlée, because he likes the sugar crust more than the liquid caramel.

You're right of course and I actually know the difference but got a little careless in my haste to post.

You could well be right. I for one wouldn't argue against that. But I stand corrected. It's a creme brulee (which I knew but forgot in my taste to post) but tastes the same so I'm sure all is still well.

We only made it through the very northern part of France, and were pressed for time. I would have loved to stop for this.

We are so lucky to have so long but there will still be dozens of things that we don't get to see. I guess that's what makes people want to keep on travelling.

There are some very yummy things available in the bakeries. We check out their goodies when we buy our bread.

It is a creme brulee. I made a mistake but they taste the same. The brulee has the crisp, sugary topping.

Sounds like you're very smart, it's much better to cook for yourselves than to rely on restaurants. At least you get to see a lot of old countryside that most of us only dream of doing.

Cities are over rated @JudyEv I'd rather see the wild habitats and the kritters that reside in them than a city full of people.

@rebelann Apart from obvious landmarks and attractions, one city is much like another.

We're not really city people anyway and I guess we're missing some great attractions but we've come across lovely old abbeys and cathedrals in some of the smaller towns. Our van is a bit slow and cumbersome so at least on most of the smaller roads we're not holding people up. We could never have afforded a trip this long if we had to eat out and pay B&B prices.

Yesterday we shared an apricot slice affair. Vince isn't supposed to have too much sugar so we sometimes share so he can enjoy something sweet without eating too much.
