Earlier things got interesting around here. The door knob on the hall bathroom has been getting stuck and giving us some trouble. My husband keeps meaning to fix the darn thing but he works long hours and forgets when he gets home.
My youngest daughter went to use the bathroom earlier and shut the door. Big mistake! She couldn't get out and I couldn't get her out either. I tried everything-screw driver, butter knife and even taking off the door knob to get it unstuck...
I called my husband and told him she's stuck. He couldn't leave the job so his boss came over and got it open.
She was stuck in there for 20 minutes, which to her felt like a lifetime!
Guess what my husband is making time for after work today?
Ever been stuck before?

YES and in a vacation rental, I was lucky I was not alone in the house, I was beating on the door like crazy, it was a bathroom in the bedroom at that.
Could your daughter not climb out the window?

@andriaperry There's no window in that bathroom or she would have been climbing! Lol.

I was stuck in a broken elevator for over 45 minutes once when the power went out, because it was an old, historic elevator and the firefighters couldn't get the door pried open to get me out. Right when they decided they were going to chop the door down, the power came back on and the doors opened up. Everybody thought I was probably panicking inside the elevator, but I just sat there and closed my eyes and took a nap while I was waiting for them to get me out.

@moffittjc You just mentioned one of my worst nightmares! Oh my gosh, there would have been no napping for me-more like screaming and crying! I'm a baby, I know.

@LovingMyBabies Well, when the power went out, so did the lights inside the elevator. There wasn't much I could do standing there in the dark, so I just sat down and closed my eyes until the power came back on.

@Ambiepam Oh my goodness an MRI machine would be worse than the bathroom! I hate those things as it is.

I have. In a public bathroom when at a music festival. My husband finally came to see what was up and got me out. Those public toilets are awful. Smelly and humid.

@LadyDuck His man strength! He tried the butter knife trick at first-didn't work. He had a flat head thick screw driver and he bent the hinge in order to get it unstuck.

None of those worked? Oh my god. I would've freaked lol.
Our downstairs bathroom has a lock, so when i was younger and got mad I'd go in and lock it. My mom would open it from the outside by the butter knives and screw driver trick. Always worked. Thank god. Lol

@Courtlynn Nope, nothing worked! His boss basically bent the hinge to get it open. It was insane.
Yeah, I wish those worked but it didn't.

Well thankfully it was your daughter who got stuck inside and not you! Imagine that one. I would have freaked out if I had been locked inside.
I have been stuck without a ride a time or two when my car broke down.

Oh wow...Not stuck that badly, but one time our bedroom door was shut and locked from the inside, and we had to pick the lock. I did get locked in a bathroom stall once at a campground. I crawled out from beneath.

So did you remember how the boss opened it? Thats very important knowledge. Maybe the mechanisms inside needs oiling with WD-40

I have been, but it has been so long that I can't recall the circumstances. That would be a long time for a child.

That must have been scary for her. I was in a public bathroom once and for the life of me it took a long time for me to open the door. For me it was very scary and embarrassing. I thought I would stuck in there forever.

That would have freaked me out. I don't do well being locked in places. I got locked in the darkroom once at work. The Lock was on the outside of the door for some reason and nobody ever bothered to change it. Well I went in one day and failed to notice the handle was pushed in so when I closed the door it locked. I banged and yelled and nobody could hear me. I was nervous there almost a half hour before somebody finally came along. It was awful.

I think that bathroom's are one of the worst places for getting stuck in, I reckon that it is because they are used so much. The handle on the door of mine came off and so everyone kept getting stuck in there because although I was putting it back on the screws were not fixing, so every time someone tried to open the door the handle would come off leaving them stuck!
I remember one time, my daughter in law and I were in the kitchen and the door there was broken, as in the handle did not work on the kitchen side, so if the door shut that was it. We were in the kitchen having a chat and the wind blew the door shut, I said 'its ok I will just go round and open the front door then I can let you out, only I did not have the key! I was horrified and cabin fever soon set in, in the end I had to kick the kitchen door open! I was a right little ninja lol but no way was I staying in there any longer!

Wow! The child must have been scared.. Twenty minutes don't sound a lot now, but it have seemed like a lifetime when it happened. I hope she's not left with any emotional trauma.
It's stupid with work rules, but your husband's boss showed a lot of humanity there. I hope the kid is feeling good now. Please make her see the fun side of it, that way she won't be afraid of such experiences ( God forbid she has one of them). Take care!
