So, I had a phone call a little bit ago. It was from our old neighbor that let us have our cat Pebbles. He asked if I knew what happened to the houses on that street from the hurricane. I said no. They had over a foot of water in their home. The furniture, cabinets, everything had to be replaced. He said it's so bad they can't stay there until the house is remodeled, they are living with his sister right now. He said thank God y'all moved out when you did. God knows what He's doing. If we were in our old house all of our stuff would have been destroyed and we wouldn't have had anywhere to go. Things work out the way they do for a reason. I feel so horrible for our old neighbors though. =( I hate that they are going through this. Such a sad time still for so many people...

I think this is a confirmation to you of God watching over you. Is there any way Johnny can help them with anything? Maybe their insurance will have a list of good construction people.

@Gardengerty Yes absolutely! Johnny can't do anything because it's an insurance job and he isn't licensed but he did offer. They do have a good company fixing it up.

I am sorry to hear the hurricane hit close to home (where you used to live). Grateful you were able to get out when you did, but bummer your neighbors all have to go with what happened. I hope they get to move back home soon after the remodel.

Wow, God was really looking out for your family! I'm so happy you were able to avoid the flooding, but sad to know that others were affected so badly. We've still got people here in Gainesville who are flooded out of their homes. One of my employees still has 3 feet of water inside her house. She is working with FEMA to have the house declared a total loss so it can be torn down and rebuilt (at a higher elevation I hope). Surprisingly, this hurricane did more damage with water than it seems like it did with wind (at least in northern Florida)

@moffittjc Yes He was. =) Thank you, me too. Yes it is so sad. I cannot imagine going through all of what they are going through right now. Thank God this guy works for an insurance company so they were covered. I'm sorry for your employee-that is awful.

@LovingMyBabies I feel horrible for anyone who suffered damage of any sort from the recent hurricanes. I feel bad that some people's homes got destroyed or badly damaged, while other homes looked like they didn't even get touched at all.

I am glad that is one thing off your list of worries. I hope those neighbors had insurance. Can you imagine how horrible it would be if they didn't?

You know I'm not religious but I do believe that everything happens for a reason and everything is either a bonus or a lesson - I'm glad you didn't have to deal with flooding!

That hits so close to home for you I'm sure. You didn't want to go, but were left without a choice, and although it was hard, it would have been much harder had the entire move been delayed another month. Thankfully you are all safe and have all of your belongings and are settling in to a new home now.

I am glad you escaped. My husband wanted to retire in the Caribbeans (in the St Martin Island). If we did, now we would have lost everything. I am glad I insisted not to go there.

It's good that you moved out when you did! I have a friend whose house has flooded three times in the last 3 years, and this last time it happened while her house was on the market (she was selling it and moving because she was tired of having her house flooded again and again).

@LovingMyBabies Yeah, she was pretty much resigned to the fact that the house was going to flood again. I have no idea how her insurance company is handling it.

So all this time that you were stressed out God was saving you and yours. This is why I will accept the pain and frustration, stop worrying because I have also experienced the same thing as you did. Once I was so upset that I did not get a house I wanted so badly to move into, start a new life. Just weeks later a tornado came and leveled that area! God is good!
