Cats or dogs?

Are you a cat person or a dog person? Or do you prefer fish or birds or some exotic pet like reptiles or insects? I'm really a dog person. I don't think there was ever a time when I was a kid that we didn't have at least one dog in the family, and most often two or three. Likewise right through my kids' childhood and teen years. It's only since I've been on my own (the last 25 years) that I haven't had dogs, and that has not been by choice, but because I have not been able to have a pet in the places where I have lived. However, for the 12 years prior to moving to my present house I lived in a friend's granny flat, and they always had dogs, so I was able to "share" their pets. I've never been interested in birds or exotic pets. I did have goldfish for a while, but sadly learned that I am the classic fish killer, so gave up. I'm not particularly fond of cats - I don't hate them, they are just not my choice of pet. Ironically, though, I often end up looking after them for friends.
