Years ago there was a popular television series hosted by Bill Cosby called - "Kids say the darndest things" - but it can be rather shocking when seemingly intelligent adults spout 'words of wisdom' I recall some twenty-odd years ago how appalled I was when a graduate teacher during our conversation expressed the view that elderly people having served their time in the world, should be put away.! I remember asking him if that was the way he would want his parents and other family members to be treated - he had no answer. Years later I am wondering if he was simply trying to shock me by saying something like that or if he really meant it. Have you ever experienced supposedly intelligent people saying the darndest things?

That was very insensitive of him. No one wants to die unless they have a terminal disease that is causing too much pain and even then many would rather live. I think the younger we are the more likely we are to say stupid things like that.

You know what @TheHorse @kandae11 I can remember when at the age of 20 a lot of us didn't think we would want to live past 30. How stupid is that?

I would hate to think that others might feel that way but won't say it. My father has already passed on and I would be devastated if anything happened to my mom.

I have had relatives suddenly come out with the most appalling racist or sexist drivel. It can be quite shocking.

Well, yes. I'm a star gazer and learned through experience that Scorpio and Orion are opposite each other in the night sky. An accountant friend told me I was wrong, and that they were right next to each other. I showed him charts. I showed him ancient Greek myths that required the two constellations be on opposite sides of the sky. But he would not be convinced. As for quick statements, I HOPE he was yanking your chain!

@Kandae11 Heh. We'll all be there soon enough. I'd rather stick around and make coasters and things than be "put down" like a sick doggie.

That I'll never know - because I didn't keep in touch with him after. He was about twelve years older than me at the time so he must have reached the "put away" age.

My first thought on this is you're really young. I remember Art Linkletter, long before Bill Cosby, had a show called the Art Linkletter show, and on it he had a panel of kids and he asked them questions, the idea being Kids say the darndest things. That said, I'm usually amazed by what comes out of seemingly intelligent people.

My main interest was getting a suitable title for my post - and the Bill Cosby version which aired from 1995 is the one I am familiar with. Yes, I am continually amazed at the words some people utter.

I have heard some people say the darndest things; for example, I heard one person once telling another to get a bath because she smelled really bad. That was rude because in my opinion she didnĀ“t smell that bad

I exerience it every day on mylot. Intelligent people posting unintelligible comments to some discussions...seemingly to the point of being racist. It is minimal, but it does happen I've noticed. :-(

I know many people from all walks of life, this one man that is extremely wealthy said the same thing about old people, that at a certain ago all of them should go live in homes and not bother other people. I asked him what home was he going to on a few years. heck, he was already getting up in the years.
