Blood donation is one of the best donations what we can ever do for the survival of humanity!
I have donated my blood several times in the past to the people who are never related to me irrespective of caste, creed, gender and status!
I feel proud of it!
In my opinion this is one of the noblest things any human being can do in one’s life to save the mankind in the situation when it is most critical stage!
Have you ever donated your blood? If so how many times so far!

I tried at around 18 years of age but I was rejected. They didn't think I was healthy enough to give any.

May be also because of your tender age dear @Daljinder ! If you are in that age group and healthy person please try to donate blood as it is not only helping others but it is having positive effect on our health too! Thanks and stay blessed!

No, I have not donated my blood but my hubby does it several times.
Once I accompanied one of my friend for donating platelets for a dengue patient. There was a request came for the particular group so we went. On reaching there, they got enough already so we left without donating. However, on seeing me, the patient’s mother told that, referring me, you are not eligible to donate blood as your weight is not sufficient. I said I just accompanied and not came for donation. However, I was not aware that for donating blood you must have enough physical weight.

@AKRao24 mostly it went fine. Yet I recall an incidence of September 2005. I donated blood and stood up and sat on a chair. I started feeling a bit dizzy. A friend of mine took me to a doctor there. They asked me to lie down on a bed nearby and told it was due to low BP.
So from next time onwards I did not hurry after donating blood and instead take time in consuming juice etc and go away only when feeling fully refreshed.

I used to donate blood all the time when they would let me (at that time I had very low blood pressure, and sometimes it would be too low to donate.) Then I started travelling on short-term missions trips, and every time I cam back I had to wait for a certain time before I could give blood again. It just got too complicated, and I gave up.

Yes, I have donated blood lots of times... I liked knowing that I was helping people I had never met!
I was forced to stop donating blood when my doctor diagnosed me with melanoma. So now, I offer to drive friends down to the donation site so they can donate blood, instead. I am still able to help those I have never met!

@DaddyEvil , No,don't think you I are being selfish! I can see a logic behind your thinking. The Surgery may not be sucessful always ....you were lucky in your first case!

@AKRao24 I was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma when Pretty was nine years old. It spread to four places before my Oncologist decided the only way to stop it was to surgically remove all four sites. He gave me less than .15 chance to survive but agreed to do the surgery because of Pretty... When I woke up after surgery, he had the biggest smile I've ever seen! (He still told me we had to wait and see how successful the surgery was, though.)
A few weeks later he told me he had gotten all of the cancer! I think he was happier than I was when he told me that!
Nine months after he said I was cancer free, he had to tell me I now had a very rare form of rectal cancer. (Rare enough that the doctors said they'd never seen cancer like it before. )
I have refused the surgery the doctors keep urging me to have because the surgery will leave me less than I am now... I am only sometimes in enough pain to make me consider surgery... but then I remember my life will no longer be worth living afterwards. (I did tell the Oncologists that if they could guarantee the surgery would remove all the cancer, I would think about having it. But life after surgery scares me more than dying from the cancer.)
I don't want to be a burden on my family or friends.
Do you believe I am being selfish?
Edit to add: Notice, I am talking on an old discussion. I have told a few of my myLot friends about this (vanny is one of them) but haven't really explained it to others.

I was regular donor( twice an year) for almost 10 years till I got Diabetes at young age of 28 and i was restricted from donation after that. My husband still donates his blood whenever he gets a chance to do so. We have blood donation camps by Lions Club and I encourage all to donate it.
I feel the need of blood banks as I got my second life only because there was enough blood for me in blood bank. So I value it even more.

@AKRao24 Yes I had a hemorrhage during my second pregnancy and I lost a lot of blood. I had very little chances of survival and only blood form blood bank could save me. I survives against the odds but my pituitary gland was damaged to an extent and I got diabetes and few hormonal issues to deal with.
