CAN your PET recognize HIS or HER NAME?

It is a quarter past midnight and getting ready to sleep. I can’t go outside and see the moon up in the sky. For the reason that it is raining and the best time to sleep like a baby. I was browsing my mobile phone’s photo gallery and I found a nice photo of “Mousy.” I felt so unfair to her for not sharing it here. I should treat my grandchildren equal. Shadow would not mind sharing her sister’s photo.
“Mousy” is like a princess in the house. She’s quite snobbish and never wants to be hug.lol It is totally the opposite of Shadow. Recently, I was observing them. I do call their names whenever I have the chance seeing them. They seem like deaf.lol They really don’t even turn around.
“Is your whisker snobbish?”
“Can your pet look at you when calling his or her name?”

Cats can be a bit snobbish at times but both my dogs do answer to their names.
Mousy is very pretty so I guess she can be snobbish

I don't have any pets, however, when I did? The cats didn't always want to acknowledge you. My neighbor has three cats, I call to them all when I see them and only one comes up and says hello.
My best friend has two cats and neither of them will particularly come when called. Not unless they want to be petted.

@Shavkat There was one time at my friend's house, I guess I called her one cat over in the exact tone that she does because he makes an inquisitive sound at me and then wants to be picked up. Once he realized it was me, he wasn't as impressed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Hahaha I know how it feels. I also did this with my neighbor's cat. She felt disappointed not seeing her master.

Sometimes my old cat just ignore me, or maybe she pretended that she doesn't know I was calling her or she doesn't know her name. Anyway, her name is OUT, that means get OUT of the house.

@Shavkat We call her Mecat. Because someone put her out at Wal-Mart, I got her and that's how she got her name.

Oh Milo has known his name for a very long time..and unlike some cats almost always responds when you call him. He is a very people oriented cat..and lived with dogs so he thinks coming, and playing fetch is the think to do.

@Shavkat Why don't you try giving her a treat every time she does soemehting you want. If she happens to wander into the room when you call her..give her a treat..or even when she responds to her name.

@snowy22315 I think that is a good idea, my friend. Let me try that as soon as I get back two days after. I am going to travel later. Thank you for your suggestion.

Because it means food for them and they so love their food and bed and who would not?

@lovinangelsinstead21 I agree. I think it is a good trick by calling their names repeatedly before feeding time.

sometimes i call a dog by another name, so the real dog with that name approaches me. head tilting as if asking, "why are you calling me?" is what i perceive them coming near me.

@ridingbet I had read the story. It was a heartbreaking moment. As they said, "Dog is man's best friend."

My cat knows her name. She comes to me when I call her but there are times too that she won't listen. She knows your calling but if she doesn't want to come, she won't. They have a mind of their own

Hi Shav. Never experience it but sometimes the cats outside the house seem to reply when you call to them (especially when they are hungry).

@mlgen1037 I agree. I was also thinking a cartoon character Garfield, he is quite smarty cat.

I can relate to that, my friend. Our dog seemed responsive and can able to recognize her name. I wish that cat and kittens can do the same thing. Thank you for liking Mousy's photo. It took me time to capture this photo. A snobbish kitten if I may say.

My cat's name is Candy. She usually comes when I call her, and sometimes she comes up to me and my mom when we say her name out of context. Even when we're talking about actual candy. Thankfully, it's more amusing than it is irritating.

Sometimes she does, sometimes not. I think they respond more to the sound of your voice than their name. I will leave the balcony door open so she can go outside when I'm not home. I will go outside and stand in the back yard facing my balcony and my kitty would be inside, most likely by the front door waiting for my return, and I will call her name. She soon comes scooting out onto the balcony to say hi.
