CAN your PET recognize HIS or HER NAME?

It is a quarter past midnight and getting ready to sleep. I can’t go outside and see the moon up in the sky. For the reason that it is raining and the best time to sleep like a baby. I was browsing my mobile phone’s photo gallery and I found a nice photo of “Mousy.” I felt so unfair to her for not sharing it here. I should treat my grandchildren equal. Shadow would not mind sharing her sister’s photo. “Mousy” is like a princess in the house. She’s quite snobbish and never wants to be hug.lol It is totally the opposite of Shadow. Recently, I was observing them. I do call their names whenever I have the chance seeing them. They seem like deaf.lol They really don’t even turn around. “Is your whisker snobbish?” “Can your pet look at you when calling his or her name?” Image Credit: Shavkat

I am jealous. Willy is not deaf. Shadow usually greets me but never turned around when calling his name. I think I can deal with that. Mousy is really too timid and snobbish.

@Shavkat When we come back home, Willy recognizes the car and run to greet us in front of our door. He is a lovely boy.

Cats can be a bit snobbish at times but both my dogs do answer to their names. Mousy is very pretty so I guess she can be snobbish

Mousy is a really snobbish girl. That's the reason why I call the princess in the house. I also observed that dogs can follow instructions more than the whiskers.

I don't have any pets, however, when I did? The cats didn't always want to acknowledge you. My neighbor has three cats, I call to them all when I see them and only one comes up and says hello. My best friend has two cats and neither of them will particularly come when called. Not unless they want to be petted.

I also noticed that. My Shadow wants to be petted always. However, if I am calling him, he doesn't really turn around and ignored me. I find it weird, I think I need to find a trick.

@Shavkat There was one time at my friend's house, I guess I called her one cat over in the exact tone that she does because he makes an inquisitive sound at me and then wants to be picked up. Once he realized it was me, he wasn't as impressed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Hahaha I know how it feels. I also did this with my neighbor's cat. She felt disappointed not seeing her master.

@JudyEv Whoah! Monty is quite comfy with this photo. I never tried to have a sheep pet. If I have a bigger lot, I might have one, too. Thank you for sharing this Monty's photo.

Sometimes my old cat just ignore me, or maybe she pretended that she doesn't know I was calling her or she doesn't know her name. Anyway, her name is OUT, that means get OUT of the house.

Oh Milo has known his name for a very long time..and unlike some cats almost always responds when you call him. He is a very people oriented cat..and lived with dogs so he thinks coming, and playing fetch is the think to do.

@Shavkat Why don't you try giving her a treat every time she does soemehting you want. If she happens to wander into the room when you call her..give her a treat..or even when she responds to her name.

It is nice that they do. My whiskers are not sharp in their listening skill. But, if they heard the sounds of a plate, they are active soldiers and stood beside me.

sometimes i call a dog by another name, so the real dog with that name approaches me. head tilting as if asking, "why are you calling me?" is what i perceive them coming near me.

Dogs are really smarty than cats. As I had observed. But then, cats are far better in catching mice and snakes.

I think animals don't really worry about their names (whatever we call them). But then again, I call them as 'hey cat, hey dog, etc' and perhaps that is why they don't really response? (perhaps they thought they were dinosaurs instead? )

I can relate to that, my friend. Our dog seemed responsive and can able to recognize her name. I wish that cat and kittens can do the same thing. Thank you for liking Mousy's photo. It took me time to capture this photo. A snobbish kitten if I may say.

My cat's name is Candy. She usually comes when I call her, and sometimes she comes up to me and my mom when we say her name out of context. Even when we're talking about actual candy. Thankfully, it's more amusing than it is irritating.

Sometimes she does, sometimes not. I think they respond more to the sound of your voice than their name. I will leave the balcony door open so she can go outside when I'm not home. I will go outside and stand in the back yard facing my balcony and my kitty would be inside, most likely by the front door waiting for my return, and I will call her name. She soon comes scooting out onto the balcony to say hi.

That's sweet. I also notice that one of my kittens always greeted me when going out the door, too. In fact, he follows me like a penguin. But, he never responded when calling his name. I find it weird sometimes.
