One of my online friends whose has turned into a very close real-life friend was coming up from Virginia to New York state this weekend and arranged with us to meet in Danbury, Connecticut. We booked a room in the same hotel and then drive there yesterday afternoon. They had a much longer ride then we did so didn't arrive until 2.5 hours after we did. We met in the lobby for a good chat and then went off the sleep. We met for breakfast this morning. We then went off to do some shopping at Stew Leonards a store that we both enjoy. At about noontime, we headed back to a restaurant that we love for a good visit. She was with her husband and 3 children and I was with Al. We weren't really hungry but it is such a fun place we look forward to meeting there. We have done it twice in the past. We spent about an hour and a half and then they had to be off for the family business that they had come up here for to begin with and we headed home. It was a brief visit but we maximized our time together and are looking forward to the next time we meet. I am considering a Virginia vacation this fall and of course, that would mean some time together.

That's so nice to meet up with an online friend. I have one in Florida not too too far from us. She lives in Port St. Lucie. Virginia is such a beautiful state.

We stop every year on our way back from Florida to visit so it is one reason I love the drive.

@DianneN I know exactly how you feel, my daughter and her family lived with us after they sold their house while they were looking for a new one and it broke my heart when all my little boys moved back out!! I hate an empty house.

@BelleStarr That's reason enough to drive. Our son and his bride have basically moved all their belongings out of our house. He stopped by twice today to get a huge mirror and odds and ends. They still need to collect their artwork, coats, and a few other things. I must admit I am so sorry they have moved out. We loved having them with us. Their house is magnificent inside as well as out. What a beautiful piece of property they have and such lovely landscaping. He had the locksmith change the 6 locks and made us keys for his place, but needs to give us the alarm code when he decides which company to go with. His head is spinning! So much to do and so little time. His business is booming right now and he's now a partner, so has lots of work.

It sounds like a really nice visit and get-away. Nicer then our weekend get-away, we worked out in that terrible heat, at our son's place. But......the payoff was in the email that they replied after I sent them pictures of how great their backyard looks. I miss them and can't wait until they're back home again.

Thank you, yes even though we talk on the phone several times a week, it is always better to get together in person.

That must have been really nice to see your friend and her family. I wasn't ble to see my online (now real) friends this year as my husband wasn't well enough to go to Spain.

I am so sorry about that, will you be able to go to Spain later in the year or are your travel days over? I do worry about that with Al and the Parkinson's it is inevitable that it will get worse.

@BelleStarr I'm not sure Isabelle. On his good days he talks of perhaps going on a cruise or back to Spain, but then he feels rough and I know we're not going anywhere. Who knows - he may improve enough, but I doubt it. We had a few days away on the coast here a couple of weeks ago and he was fine, but we were only an hour from home. Going abroad would be a different matter.

Of the online virtual contacts I have just one that visited me from the UK a few years ago. She came with her friend and spent a couple of days with us. I took here round to places that she had already suggested. We keep in touch via email and FB.

@bellestarr that kind of friendship is great. I met up with a friend this week who I only see about once a year for an hour. We catch up on family news then leave - no opportunity to disagree!!
