Broken Bones...

I broke my finger a few days ago after falling down. It's the third time I've had a broken bone in my life. It is always quite painful and it feels like it takes forever to heal. The doctor says it will be up to two months before it is back to normal. I've been searching online for the best nutrition for helping to recover and strengthening bones but there is a lot of conflicting advice out there. Has anyone else broken a bone and was there anything you ate or did that helped your recovery?

I'm sorry to hear about broken bones. You need to take rest and take calcium supplements or consultant Doctor. God bless

Thanks, I've got my fingers taped by the doctor. I think calcium supplements might be a good idea at this stage.

I went to the doctor when mine was broken. He covered the place with Plaster that lasted a month.

It isn't nice having to wear a plaster cast for a month.

When you break a bone it normally takes 4-6 weeks to heal no mater what you eat.. that is what i have been told by doctors in my family.

You are right. I only found that out when I tried to take foods and supplements that supposedly helped quicken the healing. Actually my finger is only just starting to feel nearly better now. It broke in three places so it might have taken longer than if it had been a simple break. The things I took certainly didn't seem to speed up healing in any way.

@redurnet Nothing quickens the healing process. It takes a minimum of 6 weeks.

@just4him I'm starting to believe that although I did some internet research and apparently there have been some experiments which showed quicker healing of bones when animals had their protein levels increased. I don't know how it translates into human healing though.

Thanks, I have increased my protein levels but I'm not sure it will quicken healing at all.

I've been doing a bit of reading and apparently protein can help mend bones more quickly so I've upped my intake of protein rich foods.

To help heal broken bones, you must consume from nutritional food sources that contain protein, vitamins, and bone strengthening minerals such as . Dairy & cheese products, fresh milk, yogurt . Fish, cork, tuna, salmon, milkfish, mackerel . Pumpkin seeds . Capsicum (chili and chili) . egg . Black beans . Source of vitamin K green vegetables (spinach, beans, cauliflower, broccoli) . Beef & Chicken Meat Maybe this can help speed up the healing process of fractures I got this experience when my friend got hurt like what you are experiencing right now And he always consumes food like this

I'm sorry that you broke a bone. I have heard of calcium but the amount of calcium one needs vary actually. Have you ever tried taking any food supplement or consulted a doctor about that?

Thank you, I take vitamin and mineral supplements but my diet is quite poor. I have just gone shopping and bought a lot of health foods which are supposed to contain good nutrients for bone health so hopefully this will help.

I broke three toes once and chipped bone off one of my ankles - both very painful experiences - the real pain with the toes was when the medics reset the bones

@redurnet it was worse pain than the break itself

I am sorry to hear that. You can check the Wolff's law in strengthening the bones.

Sorry that you broke your finger. You should see a doc for sure. I broke my toe a long time ago and they do not put toes in cast. Still painful.

I kicked a wall once by accident when I was vacuuming and broke a toe. I didn't go to see a doctor and thankfully it healed okay but I limped and walked with a stick. You are right, it's very painful even when it's a little bone.

Thanks, I have my finger strapped by the doctor. I guess I was just looking for nutritional ways to perhaps aid recovery, if that's even possible.

I've never broken a bone so far, but it should be very painful. They say calcium helps keep bones strong.

You are lucky to have escaped a broken bone. I looked it up and it said the average person has two breaks in a lifetime. I think I will have to increase my dairy product intake.
