Losing your dog

I think any dog owner will tell you how terrifying it is when your dog escapes and cannot be found.
Yesterday an appeal went up on facebook as a dog I know escaped his lead, ran in the road and got hit by a car. Although he went over the bonnet he did not seem to be seriously injured but he was obviously scared and despite a search could not be found.
This morning I checked my facebook page and he had returned home at 1.30am. Apart from some bruising he seemed fine and his owner was overjoyed that he was safe although he's taking him to the vet today to get him checked over.

I am glad he returned home. The owner is right to bring him to the vet, he could have inside injuries.
The horrible neighbor had two cats who disappeared and never returned home. I was more devastated than they were.
I discovered month later, that someone not far from here adopted the younger one, he thought the cat had been abandoned. I would love to know where is the other.

Hopefully the other one found a good home. There are kind people like you Anna that will give a cat food and a warm bed.

@sprite1950 The other one was a beautiful cat, I wonder if someone got him to keep. He often came to eat, I had the feeling those cats had not enough food at their house.

@LadyDuck Cats that are fed well can be fussy about what they eat but cats that are hungry and not fed well will eat anything.

@sprite1950 We looked everywhere but have still not found him. He could be lost or might have been stolen. We are still looking for the poor doggie. My friend has been posting on Facebook everyday nearly everyday to get an update

@Nawsheen To some people it is like losing a child. I would be devastated if my dog went missing.

Someone may have found him and be looking after him or was he stolen? We have a lot of dog theft here. He looks beautiful.

@Shavkat That's a shame. I hope he was looked after by the people who took him

You must have been upset. Did you never see him again?

@sprite1950 Two years ago my wife left the house then came a few moments later and said, “I’ve just reversed over the cat”. Both were distressed. Off we went to the vet who confirmed a broken pelvis. He started speaking about going to England of orthopaedic surgery and my wallet wet itself. Then he decided a period of bed rest might help pelvis to mend. Now the cat’s as right as rain.

Your wallet wet itself ?
We had a cat with a broken pelvis that had been hit by a car and it did cost a fortune to fix. This particular cat had no road sense and was later killed on the road.

@sprite1950 This was a daft big grey thing that always lay sprawled on the grey driveway and would never move when the car started up. Hasn’t learned.

@xFiacre Some animals have good road sense and will keep out of the way of traffic but I've had a few that were killed.

Glad the dog found its way home. I hope there are no internal injuries when the vet checks him over.

I saw the dog over the park running around this morning so he must have been very lucky to get away with superficial bruising.

@moffittjc I notice the owner had him off the lead again yesterday and he is not a dog that can be trusted not to run off. If a dog chases him he takes off.

@sprite1950 Nice! That dog got off lucky this time. Next time he may not be so lucky.

Yes but he has done it again since then. He keeps running off. I think his owner should keep him on the lead at the moment.

Yes the owner was very upset as he didn't know how badly the dog was hurt but it turns out it was just badly bruised and no internal injuries.

A lost dog is an agony for the dog as well as the owner. Poor thing must have wondered what on earth happened to him but he kept his wits and found his way home. I hope you spoiled him a lot.

It wasn't my dog, just a dog I know from walking my own dog but the owner was very distraught and I know he took him to the vet to get him checked over and will have spoiled him.

Yes, she was a Romanian rescue dog and quite nervous. She got spooked and slipped her collar and ran across a busy road. She's lucky to be alive.
