Yawn. Another shooting. This one where I got my Chrstmas Tree materials. Are you doing anything special for New Years Eve?

I just got word from a friend that there was a shooting at the mall where I got the stumps and sprigs to make my little Christmas trees.
The nice folks from Oregon who gave me said stumps and springs are long gone, so I don't have to worry about them.
As a slightly "redneck" (Conservative) American, I never carry any weapons when I go shopping. But it appears somebody did.
Kitty is curled up at my feet. I'm at my desk and will soon be in bed. I'll probably awaken briefly to the sound of fireworks (I hear some already, and it's only 9:15 PM here) at Midnight and then go back to sleep.
Are you doing (or, in most cases, did you do) anything special to celebrate the New Year?
Yawn. I'm sleepy.

@TheHorse It was. They did a lot of different songs. And counted down twice. One for each coast

Just the usual. Saw NY ball drop via youtube. Had my toast with Martinelli grape & apple sparkling juice. Made & ate traditional foods. Saw Castle marathon, which I enjoyed. Glad you weren't shopping when danger afoot. Happy New Years!

No, nothing special at all. If anyone had fireworks this year I did not hear them.

Just saw the New Year in here at the house. Wasn't much on television so we ended up watching some old movies from the 60's. I did hear some fireworks here earlier. That is rare. I am assuming it was the boys down the road a bit. At least they have retired to inside their home now and no more noise. Cute little trees you made! Happy New Year to you and kitty!!

I hope it wasn't a fatal shooting.
I had a cider and read all night.

Did you hear about the police officer who was taking a nap in his car between shifts (in the station parking lot) and woke up to rain coming through the shattered window and a bullet in his head?! They don’t think it was intentional but a stray bullet shot off celebrating. He is going to be okay but has a skull fracture.

@thehorse I was in bed by 9.30 after a generous repast and no firework disturbed my slumber. Nor were there any shoot outs as there was up and down our street on my first New Year in Ireland. Have a prosperous and contented 2022. Or just a happy one.

@TheHorse Soldiers on patrol being fired on by snipers, running battles with me lying under the bed. At night we had to sleep with the windows open all through the winter in case of a bomb that would shatter the glass and send it hurtling at us. With the windows the blast just came in without breaking the glass and blew pictures off the walls which wasn’t as bad.

Happy New Year. We stayed at home and watched the Key West festivities via webcam. Sorry to hear about the shootings.

@TheHorse There were hundreds and hundreds on Duval Street. They blocked the street off so that people wouldn't have to stay on the sidewalks. On top of Sloppy Joe's Bar there were people throwing out necklaces to the crowd. They also had a countdown clock and a "conch shell" that dropped as the New Year approached. Then a big neon champagne bottle appeared and shot off champagne for the New Year. They also had a huge champagne glass with bubbles coming out of it. It was pretty cool. They go to quite a lot of trouble and expense for New Year's. We also watched the crowds on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

I watched the live cam from NYC to see the ball drop and it was cute to see a couple get engaged among all that was going on, then I went to bed and just before I fell asleep I heard one last boom

I had two days of vacation. I made 44 minutes of high-speed rail and went to my parents' house. I spent two days of happy vacation with them. We had dinner and chatted together. I accompanied my mother to the mall to buy clothes and shoes.
