Artificial Sweeteners

For so long, those of us who can't use sugar, were told that splenda was the safest of artificial sweeteners. Before that it was equal and sweet n low was dangerous. Then equal became dangerous. Now we are told that splenda is dangerous and we should use stevia or monkfruit (which are not artificial, but natural sugar substitutes). Honey is suggested, but others say honey aggravates lime disease and auto immune. Lessons from that last couple of years have taught us that doctors and scientists, either, don't know what they are talking about or they only follow the studies put out by the ones paying them off. How do you know what report to trust? Currently, I am learning to cook with Stevia. It dries out the food. It is good in my coffee and cereal. But what if we are being lied to again? I am thinking maybe I should just learn how to survive on water and air.

I am not into artificial sugars as I have no accesa for it or simply I find it more expensive than the ones I am currently using. I hope we will be guided by correct studies.

The leaves of Stevia are safe to use, the processed Stevia sold as powder of liquid has the same problems as splenda.

@Kandae11 - I have read an interesting article that explained that Stevia uses on a regular basis sweeten may harm kidneys, reproductive system, and cardiovascular system. It can also give less important side effects, like bloating and gastrointestinal problems.

I am not crazy about sweets, but every now and then I use sweetener in coffee. Tea is always unsweet. When I have people over, I like to cook desserts, and I am trying to learn to cook them in the healthiest ways. Sweeteners other than sugar does change the texture.

In my humble opinion, consuming sugar as long as it is not excessive is not a serious problem. it could be that sugar adds to our energy that was lost due to activity. Wow, it's fun to cook together. give my regards to stevia..

I probably never would have changed from sugar if I had not developed diabetes. That changes everything. I am doing research on how to reverse it. I have found that carbs are more dangerous for me than sugar.

I agree with you. However it has been tested and proven that artificial sweeteners like spendid etc are cancerous. Why not use just a little of the regular sugar to sweeten your tea. Prevention is better than cure as the old saying goes. Or better to be safe than sorry. Everything manmade seem to be cancerous of late. What are we do?

@gnatsmom just use a tip of regular sugar and you will be fine. Your body still needs that little bit to give you some energy.

I agree, completely, about prevention being better than cure. That is why I refuse to take all the pills prescribed for my diabetes. They cause so many other problems after long term use. I would rather do without many foods and try to control my stress levels to control diabetes. I don't want all the health problems caused by Big Pharma meds.

Stevia and xilitol are good choices.
