Part of a sweater becomes a beanie

We lost my sister-in-law about 15 months ago. She was a great knitter but always had bad eyesight. Eventually, she had to give up her knitting and sewing. Her husband has given me a lot of her yarn and I’ve been gradually using it up. There was a piece of unfinished black knitting – part of a sweater, I think. It is an intricate pattern and beautifully done. However, there is just the one piece and no more black wool. It seemed awful to unpick such lovely work. So I sewed two sides together and it’s now a beanie. The ribbing of the jumper has become the ribbing of the beanie. It looks better when it’s being worn and I may keep it for myself. My BIL might just want it but I don’t think so. I’m just glad I was able to leave it intact.

I like the pattern and the color. If I lived near you, I might fight you for the beanie.

It's a really lovely pattern, isn't it? I'll offer it to my BIL but if he doesn't want it I'll keep it for myself. If I accumulate too many more beanies, I'll have to draw up a roster of which one to wear when.

@JudyEv Yes, I really like it. I hope he doesn't want it so you can get Vince to take a picture of you wearing it for us.

@DaddyEvil I tried to take a photo in the bathroom mirror but it was less than successful. You can't really see the pattern. I'll put it here just for you.

Thank you. It is a really lovely pattern. A pattern like this takes a great deal of skill so I was really pleased to be able to turn it into something useful.

I can just picture you sat in the front row at the Place de la Concorde not even dropping a stitch as another head rolled into the basket courtesy of Madame la Guillotine. Nice hat. Do you ever get beanie weather in Oz?

@JudyEv 16C to 19C is normally a decent summer day in Manchester! Except for today when we have temperatures in excess of 30C. Back to 19 or 20 by wednesday though.

It's beanie weather here at the moment. Esperance where we used to live had a maximum of 12C today which is very cold for that area. This week, minimums should be 7-13C and maximums 16-19C.

That was a wonderful idea to make the sweater fragment into a knit hat, or "touque" as we call it in Canada. And you will think of her whenever you wear it. Beautiful!

@JudyEv Thanks for remembering me! I had some health issues but am better now. I put my efforts towards my other writing since (poetry and children's books), but I got a notification on my email that someone started following me here -- and, yes, it's been a few years since I'd been here. I decided to check the site out again as I had fond memories of the camaraderie. Nice to see you, too, Judy!

@Sheilamarie78 Good luck with your writing. I am proof-reading chapters for a English lady who is writing a novel but she has also written a couple of children's novels for her grandson. It's a special talent I think to write for children.

Such a long time since we've seen you here! So good to see your name again. It's been so long I took you off my 'following' list but you're back on again now. I hope you're well and thanks for the kind words. I was so pleased when I came up with this solution.

I know I wrote a response to this once but it seems to have vanished. I'm sorry about that. I had a lot of yarn at one time but got to work and got rid of nearly all of it. Now, I have a whole lot more to do something with. So I'm sorry but I'll have to refuse your kind offer.

We need beanies and big coats in our winters. Even in the desert it can get extremely cold at night.

@Ronrybs A lot is but we're such a big country we have a wide range of climatic conditions. I was always very impressed when I learnt we have more snow than Switzerland. That blew me away at the time.
