A Must In My Kitchen.

I usually cook with a variety of herbs and spices, but there are two which are a must in my kitchen, not only are they full of flavor but boast medicinal benefits as well.
First up is garlic, a herb or spice dating back centuries upon centuries ago. In fact, the ancient Egyptians gave garlic to slaves building the great pyramids to give them strength and prevent disease.
Another ancient spice which is always in my kitchen is ginger - also dating back centuries ago. It is said to be the first spice exported from Asia to Europe and was used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
What herbs and spices, ancient or otherwise are a must in your kitchen or medicine cabinet?

I also keep turmeric because of its anti inflammatory properties I try to sneak it into my food. I can’t handle too much of it, but I really want the health benefits to kick in. Besides that my constants are mainly salt, pepper, garlic, and cinnamon. I like the health benefits of cinnamon too. Have you ever sprinkled some on a cut orange? So good.

I would say garlic and pepper. I use both of them a great deal.

@Kandae11 Just regular black pepper, the kind found in a shaker.

I have a very wide selection of spices and use them all the time. There are so many...I love to experiment some of the time with spices as well. It sounds like you are a good cook, Kandase.

I don't want to pat myself on the back - but l admit that l am. However , not everyone will fancy my style of cooking which leans primarily to what l consider healthy products and methods.
During Covid my son was working at home so he decided to leave the city and join me in the country. When he arrived l was dismayed at the extra weight he had put on. Today he is back to his slim trim self. I must point out that healthy eating can be tasty and exciting too.

I agree with you, a person can cook delicious meals and not add a lot of calories, they can be healthy and no one ever things about the fact that they are, because they are delicious. Good job with helping your son get the extra weight off!

Same here. We are never without garlic and ginger, include onions and tomatoes too, even eggs. I know the others are not herbs or spices but its a staple in our pantry. We are never without it. We have this and a lot more various herbs, spices, seasonings.

I constantly hear how good garlic is for us, but for some reason I don't use it.

@Kandae11 Good idea. I've heard that some people swallow garlic whole, which seems a bit much to me.
