DO YOU THINK HE WAS BRAVE OR JUST PLAIN STUPID TO ALWAYS INGAGE with DANGEROUS ANIMALS. I KNOW THERE IS THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT 'DONT SPEAK ILL OF THE DEAD' BUT I AM CURIOUS. I BELIEVE HE WAS VERY BRAVE AND WANTED TO INFORM OTHERS OF THE DANGERS OF OUR WORLD. AND MAYBE HE LIKE THE DANGER OF IT.

Bravery comes in to it. I'd say he was very passionate and loving and he wanted to share his knowledge with the world. I have learned many things from him and he will be greatly missed.
Why do the good die young?

yes, i agree astrolink, you deserved the best response for that....He always brung excitement into the homes of anyone who took the time to turn the channel and watch his show. He tried to make learning about animals exciting and he never hurt any animals either. So He was a brave soul indeed. He's up in heaven right now wrestling an alligator for God! lol *smiile*

I totally agree. He probably did have his fears, but he had such passion and loved what he did that the fears seemed to fly out the window. He had a great desire to inform the world of what the world has to offer. I learned so much from him and we'll greatly miss him.

In my opinion, I don't want to sound cold hearted and say he was stupid for doing what he did, but he hugged a stingray. If he hadn't pulled the stinger or whatever it was out of his heart he would probably still be alive. All they had to do was cut the stinger off and then rush him to a hospital. It could have been taken care of from there.

He was not hugging a stingray. He was swimming over the top of it and it lashed out at him.
I read that the damage to his heart was so severe that if this barb had pierced his heart on an operating table they still would not have been able to save him

It was an accident. Steve Irwin loved animals. We learned a lot of things from his researches. But as there is always an amount of risk involved in these kind of work, we lost him due that fateful event.
But what worries me is a recent report which suggest that in several sting-rays have been killed after that incident. I don't know whether that is the case, but if it is true than it will not give a boost to Steve's vision and it will a mockery to Steve's work.

what happened to him was just bad luck because just one out of thousands stingray attack are harmfull, and he would never do anything stupid that promotes do dangerous things on animal planet because thats against their rules, things like go after a crocodille takes a lot of planning because if he gets in danger im sure they would have to shoot the croc to save him

I think each person has their own mission in life. His mission was to touch, feel, and understand the life of the animals he came into contact with. And because of this, he built habitats and tried to provide safe shelter. It's not MY mission, but I totally respect his. I wouldn't want to be face to face with a gator or snake, but he did because of his great love.
It's not a maatter of being stupid...it's about his heart....and taking ANY risk to turn people's opinion about wildlife. I respect this man as no other because he did this without personal gain....only to help those he loved. He was true to his mission and that makes him a hero.

I think he was really trying to teach people about exotic creatures that they wouldnt normally encounter, brave in some ways and cocky in others, not stupid. He put his incredible energy into a focued lense.

I don't think he was stupid. I think he was a victim of an accident. I saw the special with his wife, and I cried. I feel for her and her kids. But it looks like his daughter will come out in the future. I think she already has a show on animal planet. Rip: Crocodile Hunter.

I think he did some what you could call stupid things but he loved what he did and all he wanted to do was teach people about animals. He was brave though because I know I would never handle some of the animals he handled and do some of the things he did.

I always thought the man was totally crazy, especially when he dangled his baby over the crocodile. He didn't have to kiss a poisonous snake for me to know that it was dangerous. I'm sorry he got killed, but it's probably the way he wanted to go. Otherwise he'd have found a safer profession.

Brave and very smart. He knew what he was doing, it was his carer. I agree very much with you and am saddened when people think otherwise.

I totally loved Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter...
He was my hero by bringing wildlife so close to those of us that would never be able to see those kinds of animals...
He was a great man, husband, father, and son...
He was loved by so many people and I loved him too...
I grieved for a whole month when he got killed by the stingray and I still miss him when I see his TV shows on...
He had such a joy for living...
He will be missed for such a long time...
