New Air Fryer

I took advantage of Amazon Prime Day and got an amazing deal on a new air fryer. We had been talking about wanting to get a good one since way back at Christmas last year, and the opportunity finally presented itself. Not only was the price exceptionally luring, but it was delivered the next morning. Also included was an air fryer cookbook with over 1500 recipes.
As much as we talked about wanting an air fryer, we don't normally cook that much in our house due to everyone's crazy work and personal schedules. So I was a little worried that we would get this amazing air fryer and it would just sit and collect dust on the kitchen counter. Boy, was I wrong! We have been using it non-stop since we got it. I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth out of it, and we've only had it for a week!
This morning's breakfast was avocado toast with poached eggs. Absolutely amazing. Dinner tonight was hot honey chicken wings, fries and tater tots. Tomorrow we will be baking a salmon. All in the air fryer. I'm in love with this thing!
Do you have an air fryer, and do you use it often?
Photo is the air fryer I bought on Amazon. It's an Emeril Lagasse air fryer. Very well constructed, and I love all the preset functions!

I think one of my hesitations over the past 6 months or so about buying one is because most of the ones I looked at were on the small side. I wanted something I could actually cook meals in, not something to just heat up snacks or something. But the big ones were so expensive that I just couldn't see myself spending the money. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I saw this one on Prime Day.

@moffittjc Shoot ! The one here won't even hold a steak! I wish I had the money to buy one even on sale.

@dfollin That’s funny that you mentioned steak, because we were wondering how good a steak would taste cooked in an air fryer. It has a steak setting on the preset functions, so we are thinking about cooking steak this weekend to give it a try.

I love our large air fryer/oven.
It is very similar to the one that you show here.
There is such a wide variety of yummy foods that can be made in it.
And try steak, you will be blown away when you grill a steak in it, and some baked potatoes in the basket on a higher rack at the same time. I love the taste of the grilled steaks so much that we haven't even lit the bbque for steaks in almost a year.
You'll love garlic bread with cheese or naan pizzas done in it, the cheese is always done to perfection.

@moffittjc I usually parboil the potatoes so that they don't take 3 times longer than the steak does, but otherwise you can do them in the air fryer together. And then in the last minutes before the meal is done you can pop in some garlic bread with cheese, you'll have such a delicious meal and all done without heating up the kitchen.

@Juliaacv Okay, I feel stupid for asking, but what does parboil mean?

Your comment makes me excited. We were just wondering last night how steaks would taste cooked in an air fryer. I think I will plan to give it a try soon!
I’m planning on cooking salmon in the air fryer tonight, and sometime this weekend do some baked potatoes.

I have neither an air fryer nor an insta pot. I may succumb one day when I get my life and my kitchen counters all in order. I cook a lot.

Oh my, I forgot all about insta pots. I don't have one of those either. Maybe I need to check those out too. But my next project for our kitchen is purchasing a really nice coffee bar. That will free up a lot of counter space if I can move all my coffee makers, supplies, and mugs out of the kitchen and into the coffee bar. Once I complete that project then maybe I'll check out insta pots.

We have one, but seldom use it. It is round and opens from the top. I hope that you enjoy yours.

@moffittjc Our bowl is pretty deep. We have done chicken in it. I guess they come in different sizes. The glass bowl is pretty heavy, so my son usually uses it more.

@Tampa_girl7 I have a rotisserie in mine that can hold up to a 6-lb bird. That's not going to feed a big family, but it works perfectly for my girlfriend, daughter and I.

I was looking at one of those round ones that opens from the top, but I decided I wanted something larger so that I could cook full meals. My girlfriend likes to roast a whole chicken, so the air fryer we got is big enough to put a whole chicken into.

My divorce was very amicable as you know. My ex and I went room through room deciding who would get what. We never argued. And I was just annoyed enough to go through it I took almost everything. You want a divorce? Okay well have fun! I took it ALL. . . except the immersion blender he asked for and the air fryer that I hated. I was happy to leave that thing there. Fine he got to keep the leather couch too.

Sounds like an awesome air fryer. I like the design, too. I got to use one when we were in the US for a month-long vacation, and I've seen how indispensable it can be for busy people. I'd get one if I had space in our apartment.

Space can definitely be an issue, especially if you have a small kitchen. I have a large kitchen, but the particular kind of air fryer I got is a big one and it does take up a lot of room on the kitchen counter.

@almostoveryou I was home by myself tonight, so I just ate leftovers I had in the refrigerator (it was all foods I previously cooked in the air fryer). I was going to cook salmon tonight, but I"m going to save that until tomorrow night when my girlfriend and daughter are home.

Oh that looks like a NICE one!! I could deal with that!
I have one, but don't really like the design of the first ones that came out. I have a Gotham Steel one, and as much as I love their cookware line, I don't love this air fryer. The markings came off the temperature dial so it is pretty much hit or miss now when using it. I need to send it to the flea market!! I made myself not shop Prime Deals this year and now you have me feeling guilty for missing a good deal!! I'll have to start watching that item on Amazon for next good deal!

It was way bigger than I thought, and takes up a lot of space on my kitchen countertop. But I'm not complaining, it turns out with all that we have been cooking in it this past week, the bigger size actually works better for us.

I really think it's worth it. I was one of the holdouts as well, questioning whether it was worth it. Now I'm totally convinced it was absolutely worth it. I have been cooking everything in it this past week, and every meal has turned out wonderful. Which says a lot, because I am normally a horrible cook!

@LeaPea2417 Take your time and research the hundreds of different options for air fryers, so that when you are ready to buy one you get something that you will love, and something that will be versatile and well-used. They'll probably go on sale again in November when Black Friday sales start appearing.

Well, I never seem to have enough money for these things but I have been considering an air fryer, So some questions in case I ever have enough, Would this air fryer do better for me than my toaster oven which has many miles on it? How much was it and what are the prices, Oh, yes, and I don't need a very large one just medium,

One of the reasons it took me so long to finally get an air fryer is because I have a perfectly good working toaster oven that has been faithfully in service for over 20 years. I couldn't rationalize parting with it when it works just fine. But my girlfriend gave me an ultimatum, that if we got an air fryer the toaster oven would have to go.
The prices for air fryers are all over the place, depending on the size and type you want to get. I happened to get a really expensive one for half price. It was $350 originally, I only paid $175 for it. But you can find decent smaller air fryers for around 50 bucks. If you don't mind waiting, you should hold off and see what kind of Black Friday deals are offered around Thanksgiving.

That was my problem too, and of course I had to go and buy one of the bigger air fryers. and it's huge and takes up way too much room in my kitchen. Of course, I have the perfect place for it, but that space is currently taken up with my two coffee makers. So, my next project is going to be to buy a nice free-standing coffee bar that I can set up near the dining room, which will then free up more counter space in my kitchen.

I don't own one. But my uncle had a toaster oven and the numbers were worn off and he never cleaned it. My mother decided one day to get a new toaster oven and I have been using it now. On prime Day, I bought two phone cases and some laundry delicate bags.

Never used one. I looked at my toaster, my stove and oven and my microwave and thought, what does this do that any of those don't do? Nothing, so I have always left them in the store. lol
What CAN an air fryer do that all my other appliances can't? Take up more counter space doing nothing new.
Yes, I AM being intentionally facetious.

@porwest Hey, if all those other appliances could take the hard work out of cooking for me like the air fryer does, I wouldn't have to stop using them. I told you I was the world's worst cook, so those appliances are no good to me.
All kidding aside, I did use both my griddle and my air fryer this morning to make bacon. I wanted to see what the difference was in taste. They both came out delicious, but I think the griddle wins out over the air fryer.

You do bring up a valid point, and it was that exact reasoning that I held out for so long in buying one. But now that I have it, I have been cooking everything in it, and haven't touched my toaster oven, microwave and stove over the past week. I think the one advantage I have with this air fryer is that it has dozens of food presets, so it takes a lot of the guesswork out of how to properly cook foods. I'm the world's worst cook, so this air fryer has made my life so much easier in the kitchen.

My daughters both have one that looks very similar, they both purchased the Breville brand. Everything they fix in there is delicious! My oldest son has an older one he bought when they first came out, it still works but it's not as big nor as fancy. He says when it croaks, he will be buying one similar to yours. I want one! But I can't justify spending the money on it right now. Time will tell!

My daughter and son in law watched for the Breville to go on sale, which took quite a while! But it paid off to wait for the sale. It even has a bread proofer, which I would dearly love to have as I bake a lot of bread. Someday, maybe! Have fun with all the new things you will be trying out!

There are so many different kinds of air fryers on the market that it’s hard to distinguish the good from the bad. I really did my homework on this one and made sure it had all the features and functions I needed in an air fryer. Which basically means it had to be dummy proof, since I am horrible at cooking.
