Being Attacked Online

The Internet has become the new venue for bullying. Bullying, attacks and insults. You could be posting about someone you know or something you saw or did when an army arrives disputing your post. And you sit there, stunned because you weren't posting hear say, you were there. If you get angry and post, the moderator/administrator might kick you off the site. You ask yourself, how do I prove my truth? My answer, why bother? I live in Jamaica. I met a lot of people, well known people, considering where I lived, where I went, what I did. Recently a movie about Bob Marley came out and I went to post a few points.. points only one who knew him, saw him, knew his wife, could possibly post. And I became lunch. Others disputing every point I made, using wikipedia and other such 'reliable' sources. I was angry, hands posed above the keyboard, about to respond... and then, taking a breath, scrolling to the bottom of their thesis, wrote; "Nope" and left it.

I feel internet is not actually friendly place. It's all about survival and fitting in the particular group of people. In some cases it will take you up and in some cases it will drown and burry you I think in future any thing we want to post we have to refer to articles or news clips or so.. on despite knowing the situation and person so as place.

That is why sometimes it's better to be just a silent reader than to post an unpopular opinion

It’s frustrating, but you did the right thing by not reacting, as it wouldn't have been worth it. The good news is that your post got some attention. I recommend sharing your opinion here rather than on social media. People might not always agree with you, but they are generally less rude. Plus posting it here earns you some cha ching!

That's the thing bout online bullying. You can walk away from it. If you post something it's no longer private and it's open to attack as you put it. You know the risk when you post.

@jaylar I've learned, that when you post anything, someone's going to have an opposing opinion. Those oppinions can hurt. So, you need to keep that in mind when you share literally anything.

I think it's when you don't expect an attack. It's not like a political thing or a sports competition, it's that one posts a fact and is attacked which is the shock

I posted something on here not long ago, and had some responces that were rather rude and unfactual...I have ignored them, and a few of them have decided to have their own conversation on my post. LOL I do not reply LOL Kind of hoping all the posts they are posting give me more Cha-Ching. LOL

As long as they 'liked' your discussion while being the bully they are, it's a cha-ching for you, lol. It was right of you to just ignore them.

I tend to type 'nope' or 'uh huh'. You are right, cause it is your post... every glance and response does do the cha-ching

It stinks to be harassed, and it’s even more discouraging when the moderator allows it (been there before). But it’s a shame that people could be losing out on what you have to say due to such a bad attitude.

I didn't think anyone would attack. I expect antis to my pro when it's political or a touchy subject. But some people attack to attack.

That's why it is better not to say anything at all (or very minimal) in those online discussion groups. And if you say something minimal and get attacked, then ignore the attacker, don't respond.

I learned that... and I had one so upset with my 'nope' on the site he posted again. Not responding, of course.

I admired the work of someone who some people hate (for no real reason) on Facebook, and l was surprised at the anger directed towards me from one person.

Been there, done that! The internet’s a wild place, and sometimes it’s just not worth the energy to argue with people who think they know it all. Sometimes, a simple ‘Nope’ says it all and saves you the hassle. You know your truth, and that’s what matters.

You can't disseminate information if the others don't want to hear it. Just keep it.

yeah the internet of people rather stir up trouble than to be respectful & help each other, I was always told if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, but some don't know how to do that, I've been trying to post a few days now & all I get is a Error so that's why I haven't posted anything as of lately cause of that.

I was told that it is just as easy to be nasty as it is to be nice. So start by being nice.

Well, we need to be careful with the words and opinion we share on the internet. Not everyone on the internet is welcoming or friendly. There are many who get cyber attacked for no reasons of their own and sometimes even for putting opinion which may not be harmless. It is better to post on neutral or things that are pleasant. Any comment on current events espcially related to politics or other countries or famous personalities would not escape many a times from cyber attacks. Also, have a tough skin and ignore comments when you know you are right.

I learned the 'trick' of posting 'nope' or 'uh huh' meaning I'm a waste of an attack.

It seems that the internet is not a very friendly place to express opinions, even though freedom of speech is highly respected. There are still many people who blame each other. But it doesn't matter, we always have the opportunity to defend our views and opinions.
