Too much walking has its down side as well.

I’ve gone and given myself a blister as a result of too much tramping about the streets of Paris. My average number of steps per day is around 20,000 (as I was boasting to @LouAvul ) and most of those steps were taken in unreasonably high temperatures, and in competition with too many other people. We have avoided using the metro as much as possible for three reasons: 1 - far too expensive and crowded 2 - all you get to see are dark tunnels 3 - it is too stuffy and pongs, especially towards the end of the working day when fellow passengers aren’t smelling the freshest We have used a hop on hop off boat service along the Seine which doesn’t have the problems of smelly assaults, but it is expensive and only serves famous tourist landmarks so its usefulness is limited. So I don’t know what I’ll do to spare my blister today. Just sit longer in cafes and in parks I suppose.

Blisters aren't nice but I agree about public transport too. I guess you'll have to wrap it as best you can and soldier on.

I've had blisters B-4 & there no fun to have & once they bust it's hard to wear any shoes for a few days that's why I get a size or 1/2 a size bigger shoes to wear to keep from blisters.

@2ndchances24 That's probably a good idea but sometimes shoes that are too big and sloppy will rub as well.

@JudyEv yeah I know that too that's why I wear thicker socks, but that's just me.

I'm sorry you have a blister. Do you have a different pair of shoes that you can wear? I hope you have a good day.

I was totally unprepared for the walking I’d do on my trip to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and my sister and I ended up walking around like we were ballet dancers the rest of the trip. May God have mercy on your soles.

I love walking, it gives me a peace of mind. I used to have a chaotic mind and then I started walking for an hour and it gave me a sense of relief.

Ouch, those Parisian blisters are no joke! Sounds like you’ve been putting in some serious miles, though—20,000 steps a day is impressive! Definitely a good call to avoid the metro; nothing like getting packed in like sardines and missing all the good views. Maybe today’s a sign to take it easy, grab a café au lait, and people-watch for a bit.

I walked 25 miles on my trip, and my feet are still displeased with me. Hope your feet are better quickly.

I have to agree that metro passengers do not smell like flowers and I found the Paris metro more smelly than the Milan metro. Both are crowded and far too expensive and you only see dark tunnels. I hope you will not get blisters by the end of the day.

That's a shame. Can you get one of those special blister plasters? I thought we were always being told that the Brits were smelly unwashed masses and the French always smelled delightful??

@fleura When we lived in Paris yonks ago (38 years ago) my wife couldn’t find deodorant - French ladies, we were told, use perfume rather than deodorant. One day she came across a deodorant but she wasn’t too sure about the smell of it so she asked me and I offered my foolish opinion that it made her smell like a very clean toilet. I thought this was a positive comment but apparently not.

Metro is a fast transportation but it has all the disadvantages that you mentioned. Blisters are such a headache, hope you find a way to improve it.

That's a bummer when you get blisters from too much walking but I don't blame you for not being on public transportation's with other people, I'd find me a better pair of shoes to walk in just for that reason, I know when I walk too much my feet swell up & by the time I get home I hurt so bad I want to just cut them slap off cause they hurt so bad.

We have to be reasonable with our bodies ,especially during this summer. We should definitely walk .However walk only 80% of whats possible. This helps in conserving energy and you never feel burnt out. Blisters are not nice and only sugeestion would be take it easy. Anything above or equivalent 10000 steps are always good and great for the body and mind. Overdoing would only result in breakdown in long run. We just need to enjoy the walking not feel the pressure of walking. So , just relax and allow the body to heal. Go for long walks but then take rest whenever needed.
