We live in moments of distress

As some of you may already know, my country is being devastated by fires. It's a disaster in the area where I live, today the fire came very close to my sister's house, to the point where her house appeared in the TV news. Right now her house is safe but we lived moments of distress. Unfortunatelly, many other houses were destroyed by the fire.
Today 7 firefighters lost their lives, among the population the number of death is still unknown, an old lady that lived near my sister had an heart attack and died when she saw the fire so close to her house
We are receiving help from Spain, France, Italy and Greece but the situation here is catastrophic
In my opinion, the arsonists should have very heavy prison sentences, they should be considered homicides, a lot of people have died because of these fires.
Picture of the TV news where is possible to see my sister's house

How very sad that these fires were intentionally set.
We can rebuild from fires, but we never regain what we had.
The loss of trees, and greenery and the wildlife that called those areas home.
And in some cases, the loss of human lives.
I hope that the fires soon come to an end and that they learn the identities of those that set them.

I didn't know but my country is sending help, I hope that pays for my ignorance.
Anyway, that's terrible to see and hear. Glad your sister's house is safe but I believe the smoke that comes from fires can be quite dangerous too. As well as the scare, sorry about that old lady.
If the arsonists are indirectly responsible for the loss of lives, that's involuntary manslaughter. They'd indeed be homicides, no doubt.

@somewitch I don't care if they have mental problems, put them in jail for the sake of humanity.

Thanks for the info. Woah, that's crazy! I wonder what would make some people do that, we all live on the same planet and breathe the same air, what's wrong with them?

I’ve not seen this reported here in the UK. All I’ve read about is the floods in Eastern Europe. Its shocking to hear that so many firefighters have lost their lives!
You haven’t mentioned the UK in your list of helpers. That’s not like us. We are normally one of the 1st to send aid to anywhere in the world. I’ll have to check it out. The British Red Cross normally put out an appeal for financial help in these situations. I can only apologise on the UK’s behalf if we haven’t offered help yet. I am sure it’s on its way.
I hope the fires have subsided and no more loss of life. Stay safe.

The situation here is terrible, right now we have more than 100 active fires.
I heard about the countries who first sent help yesterday, in TV they are saying that Morocco is also sending help. We always had good relationship with UK, I believe they will help us too, if they hadn't yet.
Tomorrow the forecast is predicting high temperatures and strong wing, it is the perfect storms for fires
Here is a picture taken from the TV news right now.

I will put all of you concerned in my prayers and I hope the fires get put out and all will be safe, Those arsonists should be hung upside down over a smoking fire and left there for many hours,

I am in agreement with you that an arsonist deserves to spend a long time in jail for their actions of killing people by starting fires.
