What a day her parents had! Imagine a laid back Sunday morning - then you find that your SUV is missing and your 8 year old daughter also. Well it seems the child decided to drive her self to Target store where she was found. She claims to have hit only one obstacle along the way - a mailbox. By the way, at what age did you learn to drive?. Here is the link to this story. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/09/17/us/ohio-girl-drives-suv-target

That is one crazy story. I can't imagine an 8 year old driving an SUV and not having a major accident.

@Kandae11 She must have been above average in size to be able to drive. Yes, her guardian angel must have done all the work

Exactly, she definitely had a guardian Angel watching over her. Imagine a child that age driving 21 kilometeres and her only incident was bumping a mailbox.

I watched this on the news. She did really well according to what I heard. Amazing! I was 10 I think. My grandpa taught me. He lived in the country. I drove him to a nearby town every week so he could get what he needed. I drove on a really old highway, IL Rte.50.when we got to the town, he drove so no one knew a child was driving him. Then when we got back out to the edged toen, I drove and he would sleep on the way back home. When I was 12, he just had me drive the entire thing.

Wow! You were not much older than that child. Was the car an automatic then?

Somebody had to have taught her how to drive or else she wouldn't have known how to start or put a car in gear. Kids these days are much smarter than those in my generation were at 8 yrs old

Yeah, parents never seem to see what is coming. Too often parents have the misguided idea that their children listen to them and will not do anything wrong.

Exactly my thoughts. Someone must have taught her but never guessed she would actually go out on her own.

I feel sorry for the parents! I wonder if they gave her a punishment of some sort.

@Kandae11 True. The outcome could have been much worse.

I expect they might think of something - but can you imagine the relief and thankfullness to find her safe in the store - and there was no big colision on the road - except for the mailbox.

Or she could have been pulled over and booked for driving without a license.

@Kandae11 They should! We can’t always expect the kid to be saved every time. It’s a wake-up call for the parents, for sure.

What a surprise to her mother! She’s very fortunate though. I learned to drive at sixteen, and got my license then too.

That is a decent age to take on that responsibility. I am wondering if she was simply paying a lot of attention when her parents drove or did someone teach her the rudiments.

Wow I wouldn’t have even been able to see over the hood at that age nor had any clue how to drive or get there. Impressive but scary.

I can't imagine having the nerve to do that at 8. I could drive at 17, but I didn't actually get my license until I was 21.

If she can do that at 8 years, I think her parents will have their hands full as she gets older.

I wonder if father or mother taught her to drive. If not she is a very observant little girl. She learned by watching.

I read that story online and wondered how did she get hold of the car keys? Someone had to have taught her how to drive. I am glad she was found safe.
