trash money rent

When I worked at a Drug Store. This lady came in and when she left she took out her last cigarette and threw the pack away. After she left the trash truck came and emptied all the big cans outside and took the trash away. Ten minutes after the trash truck came the lady came back and looked into the trash can. She came into the store crying. Where is the trash bag that was outside? I told her the trash man came and took the trash away. She had put a Thousand dollars in the pack of cigarettes to pay her rent. Than she started yelling the store owed her the thousand dollars. I tried to tell her it is not our fault you threw the money away. She finally left crying. Why would anyone put their money in a cigarette pack. She had a purse with her.

In a movie that lady would have asked for the description of the truck , followed it and got back her money. However, this is real life - no movie.

They would have crushed all the trash and she would never find her money. Why would she do something like that??

@jstory07 She obviously didn't plan to toss the empty box- and just maybe she thought it might be safer there if someone tried to pick her purse.. Sounds crazy still.

@jstory07 You never know. Most people don't want to advertize they're carrying around a grand. Even if she carried a purse, she might've wanted to hide it in plain sight in something unassuming. We don't know her and her habits.

Maybe she thought it was safer than in her purse. If someone stole her purse, she would be out that money. Have a good day.

I used to do that until I also tossed the pack,,, but fortunately it was inside a shop and the garbage was still there when I came back, never did it again
