Do you still post to Facebook?

When Facebook first came around, I posted there often, as did many of my friends. Over time, I grew less interested. There were lots of "Look how cute/successful my kids are" posts, as well as posts by musicians about "crowd size," designed to impress. Unusually they involved mediocre local bands who had been warm up acts for a better known band. When my original Facebook account was hacked, and Facebook would do nothing to help me get it back, I started a new account using a faux name, but by then my interest in Facebook was pretty much gone. That said, I do occasionally post forthcoming gig links there, as well as speaker restoration updates, just to be in touch. And I do occasionally comment on others' posts. Recently, I did a more "thoughtful" post, and figgered I'd re-post it here. It's about a picture that's been on my fridge for 23 years. ----- Back in 2001, I headed the kid program at a mother-and-child drug rehabilitation facility and minimum security prison in Oakland CA. On September 11, one of my kid clients came up to me. He was four years old. The following conversation ensued: "Did thousands of people really die today?" "Yes. I think some mean people drove airplanes into buildings in New York. People died." "Are they going to kill us?" "No, I think they're done for today. And we're not in a very tall building. I feel sad. But safe. Do you want to do some coloring together?" I drew my usual mountains and foothills. The kid drew this picture. It is still in my "refrigerator art museum," for those of you who remember the humor of Sesame Street. It occurred to me this morning, as I was grabbing my eggs and bacon, that this child is now 27-years-old. I hope he still plays music. And that he feels safe, no matter what is happening around him.

@Kandae11 They won't let me use another alias but my name. I refuse to use my picture. When someone says they love my picture,, I know they like the tree or flower I use when they see it.

I realized too late that using an "alias" would make it hard for old friends/clients to find me.

I still do. In fact, I have three places on there I post. My main page is of course just sharing thoughts and ideas with friends and family, funny memes and the like. The other two are to promote music and blogs.

I should start a new account (if I am allowed) to with some incarnation of my real name. Then I could direct people trying to find me toward my new account.

@TheHorse Might not be a bad idea. I mean, if nothing else, might serve to promote some of your music even if it is not monetized.

I lurk there, and I might "like" a few friends' posts just to let them know I still exist . . . but I haven't posted there in years. Right, the thrill is gone. Love the story behind your fridge art . . . have you ever tried to reconnect with him?

I am in touch with some of my old clients. I think it's a good thing. But I lost touch with this kid.

We too were shocked here...we expected American security to be superb. One great thing...actors like Tom Cruise, came out to calm people....we had our own terrorist attack, our actors didn't come out like that... Your actors ...I believe they even went to front during world wars.......

Thanks for sharing that memory! It’s wild to think how much time has passed since that conversation. I hope he’s thriving and still making music. I created my first Facebook account back in 2008 - if I recall that right, because a work colleague insisted I join just to play Pet Society. Now, I don’t really have any interest in Facebook itself, but I do keep a dummy account to follow people and join groups that align with my interests. I have zero fb friends and don’t post anything—it’s just a way to stay connected with topics I care about.

That's actually a good idea. If I wanted to fade from Facebook entirely, I'd still want to have access to it.

Poor kid, he must have been through a lot and then 9/11 happened. But you surely got a very precious memory to cherish. I hope he's doing well too. I'm on Facebook because of a few groups, I'm not that active otherwise.

Not much, I don't think many are interested in what I have to say.

That was a very gentle way of handling the calamity related reaction. Realistic too. You made the child feel secure instantaneously. You have a very nice approach Pony ji....we at this end were rather shocked...

Time really flies before you know it - its decades ago. What do you do by the way? Are you a Psychologist? I don't really post most of the time in Facebook but I love watching reels and kdrama there, and funny videos from the vloggers.

I use Facebook to keep track of friends and family. I also use it to keep up with my interest groups. I try to stay out of politics and other useless discussions. I am constantly aware of the censors and the fact-checking. Fact checks are the checker's opinion.

It's staggering sometimes to work out how old the kids are that we once knew as toddlers.

I tried to write to Facebook since I couldn't post my blogger link about my own recipe. But Facebook has never replied to me and I am so disappointed to it. I feel for you that you can't get your own account back after it's hacked. If I have something interesting to share, I will still post on Facebook and Twitter. I like Twitter better than Facebook but I'd better to keep them both in case of one of them can't work one day due to any reasons.

I joined facebook around 2011 becase of peer pressure. For the initial 4 years I was active in facebook -liking and responding to posts. I never played games or explored other features of facebook. Not sure if it was lack of interest or lact of time. Never felt the need . However, by around 2017 , I lost my interest in facebook. Around that time , I did see many posting things that could cause issues in society . I simply ignored and these days , I see rare posts from near and dear ones. If anyone wants to talk or update , they would use other social medias .It is only for a mass communciation , facebook comes into picture. These days, I am just doing a 1 minute scroll in facebook and that too on alternate days. So, I am there in facebook but not active as I used to be .
