Coffee will be the next luxury thing

Yesterday I read that coffee prices will skyrocket soon.
It seems climate change has negative effects on production and higher transport costs. This will lead to coffee being almost at airport prices everywhere. Now, whenever we drink coffee outside the house, we pay around 75 cents, but at the airport, we pay €2.
If I rarely drink coffee outside the house, from now on I will only drink coffee at home.
Yesterday I bought this coffee on sale for €2.40 and it's enough for around 29 coffees. The packaging says it has some notes of cocoa and nuts. hope it tastes as good as it smells.
Have you heard about this? Are you a coffee drinker?

I am a coffee drinker and I don't want to spend my money buying coffee on Starbucks or other cafe for the reason that their price is too expensive. As it is now, coffee is expensive and if they continue the increase price I cannot possibly imagine how much will it be.
I rather stay home to drink and enjoy my coffee

I don’t go out for coffee anymore, it’s been some years since I even did it occasionally. Once in a blue moon, I will go to Barnes and Noble with my daughter, who thinks she has to get a coffee from the Starbucks there. I get my black coffee, and she gets some type of latte and she always wants to buy mine, so I let her. That’s pretty much the only time I ever go out for coffee!

The cost of our coffee has already increased, but when I watch the sales I can get it for the price I used to get it for without a sale.
Vanilla and cocoa are also on the rise due to them coming from the same area.
Regardless of the cost of coffee, I will always buy it, we are both coffee lovers here.

@MarieCoyle I agree, I am alright with cocoa powder not be on the shelves, I have stocked up on chocolate chips, I will use those in baking.
I do need to pick up a bottle of vanilla.

I read that not only coffee, but cocoa would be pricey and maybe scarce. I bought some extra cocoa this summer to have for the winter, cookies, etc. for Christmas. I bought some extra vanilla as well. Kind of hard to bake without vanilla!

Those items will get used, so we know they won't go to waste. And as long as they are stored properly, they do have a very long shelf life.

A plain black coffee in a restaurant averages about $3.00 —I think that’s just ridiculous.

I love coffee and basically can't start my day without it. i rarely have coffee out and I agree that it's expensive. With the soaring prices on everything I'm not surprised that coffee will go up in price too. Guess I'm going to have to stock up a bit next time I shop.

I'm both a tea and coffee drinker. I just want one of these two, but I want. I don't mind if it's coffee or tea; but the morning begins with either of these two drinks.
You said you pay 75 cents even you drink coffee in your house. So you PAY when you drink coffee in your own house? I think that might be the cost of preparing the coffee, which is 75 cents, if I am not wrong.
When we drink or eat outside, like in hotels or in restaurants, the cost is obviously more. That's because they get the input cost from us - from the customers. Also they want to get their profit too. That's why the cost of eating outside, is more than what we prepare in our own house.

@nela13 I think a lot of confusion is now cleared. Yes, preparing coffee at home is definitely going to be less expensive as compared to having it in hotels or restaurants.

I'm not a coffee drinker. I gave up coffee many years ago. But I understand that this will be a huge disappointment for those who love coffee. I haven't noticed the price of every cup here, though I'm aware that the likes of Starbucks have gone up. A friend mentioned in jest that his Starbucks coffee is even more expensive that his breakfast.
We've got local coffee growers here who supply beans to big and small coffee shops.

@almostoveryou Starbucks prices are insane, I wonder how can someone take a coffee there every day?!
I only take a coffee outside when I am away from my home and only one per day.

@nela13 Exactly. I think it's more of a lifestyle for some people to be drinking Starbucks every day. I do like their pastries, at least, and the juices too.

@nela13 It does come down to choice. Not everything has to be bought, and if we stop buying and push back a little, I think when the shelves stay full, they'll have to drop prices just to move product even if it means making less on every item sold.
We all have limits.

I am absolutely a person that must have coffee every day. Plain, black and hot coffee! I have been trying to stay ahead on my coffee supply somewhat. That way, I can watch for sales, and not feel like I have to pay the highest prices.
Plain and simple, this girl must have her coffee!!!

I am big on getting everyday items on sale. Coffee keeps a long time, if a person is one or two packages/cans whatever ahead, it's a good thing, as it gives you more time to look for a good sale price. I try to maintain a pantry that has all of the basics in it and buy accordingly, so that I don't run out of things I use all the time--it helps a lot.

I like coffee, but limit myself to a maximum of 2 per day. A 100g jar of Nescafé Gold instant coffee over here is currently £3.65 in Tesco. Apparently you can get 55 cups from that jar, which works out at 6p per cup. That sounds reasonable to me. I don’t know at what cost it would become too expensive to drink, but even double wouldn’t make me cut back. Should I consider stockpiling?

I've been reading for a while now that coffee will become scarce in the future. The plants that the coffee beans come from can only grow at certain elevations and certain temperatures, and due to climate change there are becoming fewer and fewer areas of the world left to successfully grow the plants. You are correct that coffee will soon become an expensive luxury, unless science and technology can develop a way to successfully produce coffee in abundance.

Coffee production is affected by climate change, by diseases that affect the coffee plant and it seems that there is a greater demand for coffee worldwide.

I was not aware of the challenges in coffee production. Price rise across comodity will happe yearly and periodically.Worse, prices would not normally come down as well, once the base is set. Coming to price rise, many could jump to tea as an alternative or have lesser coffee. Those are the only two solutions possible when the prices are going beyond our budget. Personally , I do not drink much coffee or tea and is rare to consume either one of them unless I am sick or really need a boost. My favourite is water and that help me with my minimal lifestyle as well. Good to know your interests!

I've heard of coffee prices rising due to some EU thing and that was all.
I'm not sure if I can adjust to chicory or barley coffee, but I'm positive about that. Actually, I do have a bad habit of drinking coffee before going to bed so that would help.
