My grandmother turned 96 this weekend. Since the summer she has been in a nursing home, she could no longer be alone during the day and as my aunt works in this nursing home we know that she is being treated very well.
On Sunday, she received a visit from the whole family. She was happy despite already having some memory failures, the happiness on her face was evident.
Many people over 90 live there, but they are from a more resilient generation than ours. I read that current generations won't live as long as my grandmother's generation.
Are there a lot of people over 90 in your area?

One of my two remaining brothers is over 90 and still lives at his home with his wife, her son and his wife. (I've never asked if her son has any children...)
I rarely ask someone their age as I don't feel it's my business... They'll tell me if they want me to know.
I'm glad your grandmother was happy with the visit from all of you. And happy belated birthday to her.

@nela13 He is one of the oldest brothers and I am next-to-the-youngest. I turned 61 this past October.
You're welcome. I'm sure she does...
Pretty is doing fine, thank you for asking.

My paternal grandmother lived to be 91, and was able to live independently because her oldest daughter moved in next door to keep an eye on her. Near the end she began having memory issues, so when she passed it was a blessing for her, although sad. She would have taken it hard to have had to go to a nursing home.
But with your aunt working at your grandmother’s facility it really works out for the best, doesn’t it? And since she is still able to experience happiness that is a blessing for everyone.Happy birthday to her!
I have no desire to live to be in my nineties. My health is bad at 43 so I can’t imagine how poorly I’d be doing at 93.

She is my paternal grandmother too, my aunt always has an eye on her and it was the best solution.
I am sorry that your health isn't good, I hope it isn't something serious.

My in-laws lived to be 92, at least the women. My mother only made it to 79. It would've been nice if she'd lived to over 90, but I don't think I would've met my husband otherwise. So it worked out.

I have an aunt & uncle in their 90s who still live at home and are still able to care for themselves. I'm always amazed that they still in good health and going strong. My moms side of the family all lived well into their 90s.
Happy Birthday to your grandma. I'm sure she was happy to have the family around to celebrate. Her cake certainly looks good.

That means that you have a good chance to reach that age too.
Thank you, she was indeed happy.
