What do you consider a lost art?

When I ask what you consider a lost “art”, I use that term loosely. Because my example isn’t traditionally thought of as art, but it’s a craft that shows off an artistic side of a person. See, my sister loves the animated movie, “Up” (I believe it is a Pixar movie). You might remember an animated commercial of a widower in a house being carried away by balloons. My sister used to scrapbook, but hasn’t touched one for at least 16 years. I got her an “Up” scrapbooking set for “The Adventure Book”. Since they’ve (her family) been traveling the past two years she has come to love it, and wants to head out at every opportunity. So I think this set will be perfect for her. Everything is digital today so I imagine scrapbooks aren’t a popular hobby, but I think it is a lost art. A tangible, colorfully decorated history of adventures and joy. I’m glad she was so happy with it. What do you consider a lost art?

Staying quiet when you see someone else using a phone is definitely a lost art! But then again, talking quietly on the phone so the conversation stays between you and whoever you called is also a lost art, in my opinion.

@AmbiePam I agree... The worst people always seem to want to talk about disgusting stuff as loud as they can, no matter where they're at or who can hear them. I just don't understand people.

@DaddyEvil Having a loud phone conversation about family matters is the in thing to do on either a train or a Greyhound bus.

@sallypup Sadly some areas won't even allow you to grow stuff.

@wolfgirl569 Having grass in towns and cities is so arrogant when there are so many hungry people. IF people would eat real food like greens or carrots and green beans we could raise tons of food in our yards.

That is a great gift, Mindy must have loved it. It will be interesting to see Amyra's spin on it as she is very talented and a younger generation's spin might be fun. I think that anything hand written is a lost art. I always write a summary at the end of the year, sometime during the month of December. I look back on them every few years. I also think that hand written budgets are a lost art, there is alot of figuring in order to do up a budget and keep it current. It makes me much more accountable for my spending and saving.

@AmbiePam Well today I went to the local library for some peace and quiet but this is the day when all the old biddies in the town congregate there to knit and gossip. They’re all hard of hearing so they shout, and I learned that lemon juice really helps get one particular lady’s bowels get moving in the mornings.

Sewing is another one. Everyone used to know how to sew and sewed on a regular basis. I don't know anyone now that still sews and makes their own clothing and for the family.

@AmbiePam Very true! I did one sewing project in Home Ec. My little brother had just been born and I whipped up an outfit in one night. After that the teacher made me exempt from other sewing projects. Now it would take me weeks to get a project done! The last time I thought I wanted to sew, the directions on the pattern were wonky and hard to understand.

In this digital age, almost everything is a lost art. Telling time on a regular clock, tying shoelaces, handwriting with pen and paper, even art is digitized, so the old-fashioned paintbrush on canvas is a lost art. Old cartoons using ink is also a lost art. Everything is digitized.

There are quite a few. Scrapbook is definitely one, also letter writing and writing a heart felt thank you note in your best handwriting. I also feel that beautiful handwriting ( the art of caligraphy) is getting lost.

Wow! That's so sweet of you. I love the Up Movie too but so sad and it makes me hard to move on when I watched that decades ago! None for me... I am not really into lost art, I think there are missing arts that was fortunately found after a decades.
