Sucking people in

The photo has little to do with the discussion. It's a wreath made up of native Australian flora. We live in a lifestyle village and have a Facebook page for the 150+ residents. With so many elderly people living there, there is a lot of petty to-ing and fro-ing about various issues, ranging from exceeding the 10 kph speed limit within the village, parking in inappropriate places and people not picking up after their dogs. We have a very active social committee and today a letter to all villagers suggested a go-kart race within the village. The letter was very detailed and plausible including a car parts and accessories company being approached for sponsorship and a racing car celebrity being invited to attend. Can you imagine the comments? It seems the whole village is in a furore, with some going right off their faces and others applauding the idea. Turns out it’s an April Fool’s joke. Happy April Fool’s Day everyone.

Some were irate; some thought it a great idea and others couldn't decide.

That looks like a fun community. Would have been quite a scene of the gokarting happened! Would you have stuck to the 10kmph limit?

Some were saying 20kmph would be a better limit; others were asking if the residents could go drive faster that day, etc, etc.

Some work very well. I don't like those where someone gets hurt.

The letter was quite comprehensive and came from the governing body of the village so it all looked very authentic. I'm not surprised quite a few were taken in by it.

@JudyEv True... But you could always make the suggestion that it really happen. I'm sure you and Vince wouldn't be the only ones interested in it.

@JudyEv The separate school board administrator sent an email out to his staff yesterday regarding the deficit and how to try to make up some of that from the staff. He advised them that they would start charging all staff $10/day for parking and would automatically be deducted from their pay beginning with the next pay. The email went on to explain that this would be retroactive to the first of the year and would represent $5.5 million and would greatly help the shortfall in balancing their books. He had over 1,000 emails immediately. He 'apologized' as he recognized that these are tough times and that not everyone could afford this. It was very insulative to more staff than not. I know about it because it made the news, and I am sure that he will be stepping down from his position before too long after that stunt.

@Juliaacv Any April Fools Jokes need to be considered carefully. Some, such as this, could cause a lot of angst and worry.

Yes, the joke did hit the mark. People tend to act before they think when the agenda is out of the ordinary.

For a while I was imagining the two of you and a host of others. Would have been a sight for viewers. Sadly it turns out to be a joke. Happy April Food's Day I read a nasty comment on one of your posts. Not fair. You are a nice lady really
