Daughter Finally Getting Help

My oldest daughter, Michele, has had health issues for a few years with sharp burning pain, falling, and the last year she began to lose mobility and other functions.
She was in extreme pain and no doctor would listen. She heard so many "diagnosis" and given Botox that caused worse issues.
Last Tuesday, her husband came home from work and hauled her to an ER in a neighboring town.
It was the moment she got answers and help.
A neurosurgeon was there and immediately ordered MRI's and when seeing the images, asked for all the other images (CT and X-ray's.) She told my daughter she needs emergency surgery before becoming paralyzed.
Without going into wordy medical term details, she had spinal surgery and sporting a very long 40+ staple surgery site from her brain stem area down towards the middle of her back. Her nerves were compressed in the spine with a lot of damage.
Her surgery took over eight hours with a fusion, screws etc. and she was in the ICU for four days.
She has a huge surgical site with a lot of staples, over 40.
She has a very long road back and will need at least a year of PT and OT. Even then, since doctors let it go so long, they don't know her outcome but do know she will lose a lot of her neck rotation range.
The case worker at the hospital was able to get the insurance to approve her going to a facility in WA so she is close to me, my son-in-law's work (he drives for Walmart and pulls out of WA), and my ex-daughter-in-law who she is close to.
They wanted $3k to transport her, so I drove back down to Oregon and transported her the six hours up. They did not like it but insurance wouldn't pay. It was a challenge since she could not be moved once in my vehicle.
She asked me to take the scenic route so we went out through the back country from Corvallis to Independence and then up to the highway. She needed it since hadn't been outside in over two months (except to the doctors and hospital.)
I stayed with her two days to help her not be so scared and she is settling in now and they are keeping her busy. Already two sessions each of PT and OT yesterday and today.
I arrived home late last night and her husband is there right now. I'm headed back tomorrow morning and we three will go outside or if rain, some place inside to visit so she can get out of her room.
My plan is to be back home late tomorrow night. It's a two hour drive from me.
I'll go again Wednesday and plan to spend the night and go back Thursday too. Once a rotation is in with all of us, I'll plan two days a week.
With that said, it's another blip in life that I don't get on as much as I want to. Also downsizing and still trying to get the property done so we can get moved next month.
I hope everyone is doing well. If you are a prayer, please say one for my daughter. She lost a lot of fine motor skills as well.

I am just so sorry. How terrible it had to happen that her condition wasn’t diagnosed and maybe the outcome would not have been so serious! It will be a long haul for her, her husband, and everyone else involved as well. I hope she can keep her spirits up. I am sure you are all worried about her. Sending prayers for you all.

Thank you. It's been a long week but she had progress yesterday. I drive the 2 plus hours one way three times a week. With her progress yesterday, I can cut it down to twice a week and she has a future projected date to go home sometime in May and be an outpatient.

I know how stressful this can be. My son has been on a huge medical roller coaster for over two years now, and I know I’m slowing down some. I do the best I can for him, but I always worry it won’t be enough. It’s very stressful and difficult, I hope she does well with her rehab and gets to go home soon.

I'm sorry to hear of your son's medical roller coaster. We, as mom's, always seem to think it's not enough. I'm leaving for the hospital again tomorrow morning. It's a day off from therapy so we'll get outside and picnic in the gardens. She is looking forward to being wheeled outside.

That is just so sad that her problems weren't picked up on before. Some doctors seem quite uncaring at times. This is going to be a lot of work for all of you but hopefully things will start to improve from now on. Sending lots of prayers and positive vibes.

Those back and neck surgeries are scary, and hard, but I am glad someone finally helped her and she is on her way to some recovery.

Thats quite a tale, your poor daughter has been through the mill. I hope she can make a full recovery, and Thank God for a neurosurgeon who knew what they were doing. Thoughts and prayers for you both.
