Smilies on myLot

Do you think there should be an option for smilies when posting? I do. I think that it's very difficult to know when a person is joking or saying something "tongue in cheek", so smilies would be a great help. I think flame wars can develope very easily, especially without them. What do you think?

Yes you are absolutely right, there should be that option and other formatting options also should be added to mylot to make it more engaging and entertaining and fun. The smilies are the best way to express yourself these days in almost anything online. I think mylot will add these feature soon.

@rebelann is it an option? I haven't been on here in years.

Apparently someone listened as it has been an option for at least the past 6 years

Yes, some basic emojis are available now. I hope you plan to come back.

That would be a great feature! I always use smilies when chatting, posting, or emailing (unless it's a professional email for work or school). I agree with you that it can help to reduce the number of misunderstandings that can occur so easily online. You should submit your suggestion to the myLot staff!

It did become a feature although not as many as is on your example.

The guidelines state that there must be at least 2 sentences to any discussion which means few people would mistake an emoji as a word.

Smileys are actually quite useful in a discussion on the Internet. As what we see of each other in a myLot discussion is simply lines of text -- without the usual facial expressions and body language that we're used to in a face-to-face conversation -- some responses may be misinterpreted and considered offensive although this wasn't the original intention of the author.
On the other hand, there will always be abuse and people adding zillions of irrelevant smileys.
Tough choice, really...

I agree that we need smilies in here :) I use them all of the time with the keyboard but many people don't get it and they are not as funny and obvious as animated ones, I always use :) and ;) , :)) etc but would love to use real smiles at mylot too :)

I always use them too. I'm going to start using them here. It's just a pity I have to have them on the pc and then upload them.

Yes I too agree there should be smileys in the myLot. It is wonderful to see different expressions like smileys to show our expressions. Sometimes these expressions express lots of things and makes us happy when we get happy smiles.

I also love smiley!
And I think that with them it would be more easy to understand with that sensible the author in them wrote a message.
I think that it would be an excellent form of if to exepressar and in would help to show them the emotion that we are feeling while we write a message.

Me too. I've made a few comments that were definately tongue in cheek. At least now I know I can add an image into those posts though.

I think this a great idea!!! Your right it's very hard to tell sometimes when people are being seriuos or joking around. Smilies would be a great option on here.

You're definetly right; I mean, sometimes I tend to get a little paranoid in my discussions as to whether someone's being rude or not...how are we supposed to know?
But, having said that, smilies would be an even easier way for those who can't be bothered to answer discussions properly to get their ranking up, don't you think?

I honestly don't think they'd be any more easier than what they're doing already. If they used a smiley for that reason then they'd get a negative rating I think.

Your right, the smilies can make all the difference between a fun conversation and an all-out flame war. I can be a bet scarcastic sometimes so I add the old fashioned "emoti-cons":

It's just like being back on AOL in the early days.

It might help to keep some people a little less angry when others are joking!

I've used a couple of them before, but don't have too many. That just means I'm going to have to go hunting for smilies to use! I've seen some really neat ones!

The smilies will add fun into this website, I love using smilies but they sometimes tend to make the loading of the site a little slow.

Emojis are absolutely fun and can be used to convey way more than mere words

I would like to vote yes on this one also. I agree sometimes you just have no idea what and how people are thinking. It would sure help clarify some answers.

So do I, it helps convey the real meaning behind the words
