A grandmother and her 3 grandchildren where in the house at 9:00 in the morning by 9:30 the house was in flames. One of the children got out but a 9 and 7 year old died in the backroom the GM had 90% of her body burnt she tried to go back in to get the other children the fire people had arrived by then and they stopped her.
There were no fire alarms in the house these children did not know to get out of the house through a window. We as parents and grandparents need to teach children the best and fastest way to get out a burning house and where to meet once we get out.
This is a must for everyone, god bless.

I really do appreciate your post and your concern for people thanx a lot.Yeah i do have fire alarms not one but two.And my parents have taught me about it right since i was only 12 years of age
i can just share whatever i know about it:
A fire alarm notification appliance is an active fire protection item.
It is an electromechanical or electronic horn, speaker, strobe light, or other device that warns people in a building of a possible fire or other condition requiring emergency evacuation. Some horns can produce several different kinds of sounds
Typically, when a fire alarm is sounded, emergency responders are summoned, the building is evacuated, people gather at predetermined assembly points, and a roll call is held.
Also, in the event of a total power failure due to the fire, these strobe lights can assist building occupants in finding their way to the nearest exit by illuminating the corridors, since all modern fire alarm systems have backup power systems in place.

No I don't have any fire alarms installed in my home..But I think it is an essential requirement in everyone's house in today's world...so I would take this suggestion seriously and will talk to my parents about the same..

fire alarms could be helpful but making the home fire safe and educating the people living in it would be better.emergency exits should be made easily accessible to everyone and fire hazards should be elliminated. it is also very important to do fire drills especially with the children so that way they'll know just what to do and they must also be instructed to always have a presence of mind and never to panic.

this is a very sad case. and yes everyone should have smoke detectors we have 3 and a CO2 detector. also remember to check the batteries in those at least once a month and replace them every 6 months even if theyre still working.

No I do not have a fire alarm in my home but after reading your post I'll have to seriously think of getting one. I totally agree that the children should be taught ways of escaping in case of fire.
A very informative discussion. Thank you for this.

I am a bit OCD when it comes to this. I live in a 2 bedroom home and we have 4 and a CO2 Detector. One in the laundry room. One outside of our bedrooms. One in the basement stairwell. And one in the basement that is also a CO2 Detector. Plus the CO2 detector in the kitchen. I think I am covered. I change the batteries every 3 months. Better safe than sorry.

Oh my goodness, that is awful :( :( I am so sorry for that family and the children who didn't make it out of the fire. :( Yes, my family have several fire alarms in our house. We have one in my room, one in the living room, I believe on in the basement, and I can't remember if we have any others. We also have a fire extinguisher! ^_^

I hear that, fire alarm should be a piority and children should be taught what to do when they hear the alarm go off.

We have fire alarm in our home. But in a hard situation only having an alarm in home does not work. So it's good to teach children how to get out of a burnning house as you said.

We actually don't have a single one. It is against the law to not put one in a home in GA but we don't have one.

AAAh what senseless deaths! Yes it is the law in Ontario and likely the rest of Canada to have a WORKING smoke detector on each and every floor of your home, especially outside of bedroon areas. We need to practise better safety in our homes and schools. I believe it is CHILD ABUSE to not have working smoke (and carbon monoxide) detectors for that matter, and teach our children about fire safety, after all, we teach them about 'stranger danger', don't we? And which adults to trust, etc. How about teaching them what to do and how best to protect themselves in case of fire???? Sorry for the rant, but it really 'burns' me when I see or hear of deaths that can likely be prevented with a little common sense!

We dont have a fire alarm in the house, but we will soon, the fire department offered to come out and so we are going to let them, they said they'll give us a couple and install it and everything! so yea, we're working on it...
But yea that story is sad, it probably happens more than we think...
