Have you ever watched an operation?

I have watched once (I still don't know how I was able to do it because I am normally a coward and afraid of blood, knives and pointed/sharp things). I was around 17 years old then, and my sister-in-law had to be operated on due to ectopic pregnancy. I can't believe I watched the whole procedure without fainting!

I wanted my husband to video tape my c-section so that I could watch it but the hospital wouldnt allow it. I dont get grossed out by blood and I thought it would be interesting to see how they did it and to see them pull my children out of my belly. My husband watched the entire thing..both times.

Well I wouldn't say that I have actually watched an operation. I watched my son being born and that was one of the best experiences in my life. I had a heart attack and they had to go through my wrist and put a camera through my artery all the way into my heart. I got to watch that on a video monitor. It was scary and someone painful but it was a unique experience also. I guess that's the extent of my experiences.

I've never watched one done live, but have seen a few on TV and I just can't watch them without getting ill. What's funny is that I am huge fan of horror movies and love all the blood and gore...don't understand why I can't stomach the operations, perhaps because I know it's real.

I've only seen some on tv. Not that it's the same at all,i'm sure, but some i could easily watch, and others i couldn't see it until the end. Births and open heart surgeries, i watch, with interest. But when it comes to rhinoplasty (nose job), i don't know why, but i just can't watch it. The way they just pound on the nose to break it before reconstructing it,just grosses me out!

I've watched several procedures when I worked at an animal hospital, and a couple now that I volunteer with marine mammals. As far as people, I tried my hardest to watch my surgery on my back, but it was hard to turn that way and the doctor didn't want me looking. And my brother had split his roof of his mouth on a truck tailgate before, and I was so interested as a kid that the doctor hardly had room to work around me in there watching. I thought it was really neat! My brother however, was not pleased...

I recently had a microsurgery because of a slipped disc. The doctor gave me a CD of the whole procedure done on me. It has been one year and curious as I am, I have not had the courage to look at it yet! I feel ticklish about it.

I have only seen them on tv. We usually watch them when they are one cause my eight year old is really into medical stuff. Once my high school weight training teacher showed us his knee surgry in class. It was interesting.

hi there. well im scared getting into that kind of situation, well maybe it would be totally offlimits that's why it would be impossible.. but when those scenarios happen, gosh i dont think that i can really stand it.. because i have the tendency to keep it stucked it my head.. for how long, maybe i would endure it forever... so as much as possible, i would like to keep it of my business , heheh. thanks ^_^

Actually, I have. I was once an Operating Room Nurse. It was the first job I landed and it was my dream job when I was still in college. I was disapointed (that's another story).

They allowed you to watch? Thought that would be against policy. They do allow fathers in for delivery, but not for C sections even. Anything under general anesthesia is not permitted anyway since the patient is unconcsious, there is no business for non medical personnel to be in there. The logic is if the observer faints or something, the OT staff will be distracted and now have to deal with another person.

The only thing I've seen live and in person, was when a friend of mine had natural childbirth. I had never seen a baby being born. It was the most awesome thing! I had my babies back in the day when they put you to sleep and when you woke up you were done! LOL I've watched some surgeries on tv...a knee replacement...that made me wince! and the face lift ones where they separate the skin of your face from the underlying muscle or some such thing...I always go EYeww! The one I hate the most is watching liposuction...it just seems so gross and invasive. The newer procedure for liposuction using lasers and melting or something, is not so bad.

I watched a c-section during my clinical rotation in OB. It was fascinating! I did feel a little weak in the knees and claustrophobic from the mask, but I made it through the entire procedure and helped recover the patient afterwards.

I have never watched a surgery in person. I have watched them on TV though. I am alot like you, i am very weak around knives and blood. Sometimes i am watching them shows on TV and wander to myself how could them doctors just stand there and do what they are doing. I guess it takes a special kind of person for that. But i cant handle watching it on TV much less stand in an operating room and watch.

I was a surgical technician for nine years so I've seen alot of surgeries up close. The first surgery I observed was a bit intimidating. It was a total knee replacement and there were two tables of instruments. I thought I would never be able to learn all the steps and instruments. After awhile it became easy.
