Rosie O'Donnell is getting a lot of attention lately. Most recently, the media has been buzzing about her comments regarding American Idol. She expressed her opinion that American Idol (the judges in particular) are taking their criticism of the early contestants to an uneccessary and cruel extreme. She poses the question, "Isn't this what America thinks is entertainment?" She goes on to say, "To make fun of someone’s physical appearance and then when they leave the room laugh hysterically at them, three millionaires, one probably intoxicated...the whole thing, it's terrible sad to me." Thoughts, opinions, rants anyone???

I didn't hear what she said but she is right. I think that the judges on American Idol can go a little to far. If a person can sing it should not matter their apperance. Not being a waffer is not the end of the world.I don't remember what singer it was but it was in the 90's. The people of the womans lable had another person in the video pretending to be her. Telling the woman that it would sell more records for her. Well, the woman who was full figured came out later on and said something.
I mean even if the person can not sing they don't need to be so harsh about it. I guess the people who go onto audition know what they can expect too.

I agree. I've seen episodes in past AI seasons where a person comes in to audition and doesn't fit the typical celebrity body type completey shocks the judges when they sing beautifully. I mean, look at past singers like Carney Willson and Meat Loaf. Both were overweight and not what society deems "attractive" but they had amazing singing careers.

Rosie O'Donnell has a big mouth....and I like that. I mean she is not afraid to speak to her mind. I may not agree with her at times but I applaud her for speaking up. I do think that maybe she tries to hard to be rude and dispell the Queen Of Nice rep she got when she had he show, but that is part of her charm.
As far as American Idol...I do think that viewers enjoy the judges being mean. It is sad but the judges just do what many other people do, the only difference is that they are on tv. I mean, it's not right what they do, but that is really what is expected of them by the viewers. And anyone going to audition should know to expect that kind of behavior. If I had the gall to show up there and swear that I could sing I would expect them to be mean and make fun of me. That is part of what makes Idol a huge successful show.
Anyways, I think Rosie has a right to her opinons and I think the judges at Idol will continue to act the way they do. Welcome to America, where free speech is not only allowed but encouraged.

I agree...to an extent. I also applaud Rosie for speaking her mind regardless of what the press might say. In her rant about AI, she made the argument that so far this season the AI episodes have been composed of almost all bad auditions because some viewers only watch it to see the bad ones, but some people like to hear the good ones too and that if AI puts more of the good ones on the show that they would still have a large viewer base. I tend to agree with her. I've watched both shows this week and was disappointed in the lack of good talent shown. Anyway, Rosie will continue to speak her mind and AI will continue to draw more and more viewers.

Rosie is right and is probably voicing what everyone is thinking and doesn't voice out loud. I myself think that American Idol is going to be different this year because the judging does seem to be different they used to be lovable even simon somewhat but things has changed this year maybe they don't wanto do it but are under contract to and this is a way to get out of the contract by being cruel and make unnecessary remarks. There singing shouldn't have to do anything about their appearance and if it does then they need to put up signs and say only the beautifulest, skinniest, smartest need apply. I think maybe this will be the last year for the show especially if things remain the way they do.(with the judges). So I think Rosie is right.

The thing is Rosie isn't voicing what everyone is thinking. She isn't voicing what I'm thinking. I'm not afraid to say the judges are different this year but I also think the more Rosie opens her mouth lately, the ruder she gets.

You know what, I wish Rosie would shut her mouth. All of a sudden she thinks she is an expert on all topics. She has a big mouth and I wish she'd shut it. I cannot stand the woman. I really think she has lost it. She use to be likeable when she had her own talk show and now all of a sudden she is wacko. She starts a fight with everyone lately and is so opinionated. How dare she say they shouldn't make fun of someone when she did that herself with Donald Trump. She started it with making fun of his hair. She even started it with Kelly Ripa over the Clay Atkin episode. And of course she has to bring being gay into it. Kelly was not offended because he was gay that had nothing to do with it but of course big mouth has to get her back and assume that when something goes wrong it's people lashing out because they are anti-gay. She is off her rocker and should be commited.

Hillary has already served one term. She screwed things up enough the first time, I don't want to see her in office and I especially don't want to Rosie anywhere near the White House. She has proven that she has no self control or professionalism and I do not feel that she should be in a position of power in our country.

Im definitly not a rosie fan but I did think that simon was cruel and rude to some of those people. Its true though that that's what the people are looking for. Its the ratings they are after and thats all. The more bizarre the show the higher the ratings. It all seemed fixed to me. They put on television some of the strangest looking and acting people they could find. Im sure they are all prequalified before they get into the judges. Those kind of people are what they are looking for. It gets the people talking.

Rosie is making a serious comment about the American Idol judges. I certainly do not see anything to disagree about or critique in her opinion.
I do have a thought about her opionion, though. I wonder what star rating she would get for expressing herself thusly here at myLot?

Probably all ten stars because she would be highly active and many people do agree with her point of view. I don't doubt that she would indeed recieve negative ratings because she can be rather blunt, but you aren't supposed to negatively rate someone just because their opinion is different than yours.

Apparently she thinks there is always something to complain about. I don't see her learning how to keep her mouth shut anytime soon. There's rumors going around that she will not renew her contract with The View when it's up in June. When that happens it will be interesting to see where she will pop up next.

Rosie will say anything to get attention. Lord knows she has no talents or great wisdom to offer us, so she turns in to a train wreck for all of us to rubber neck at. I fore see here soon, Rosie is going to be out of job and we will be rid of her. I refuse to watch the view with that loud mouth on there. She brings no intelligence to the table, just a lot of hot air. What in the world was Barbra thinking?

The only reason I don't feel bad for those people they talk about is they know when they go in that room that they are being recorded. They know what is involved when they audition and they see what is on TV when it airs. So I don't feel that bad for those people because they know what they are getting into when they go there. Another thing, some of those people have to go for the attention, because its not like they are actually good or could think they were.

I don't normally watch Rosie, but I did hear a segment on the news showing what she said about American Idol. I have to say that I'm somewhat in agreement with her, the judges are totally cruel to those who are trying to be a contestant. These contestants (most) are trying with all their hearts to do something they always wanted to do, and while they don't have the skill to become a preformer, it's not necessary to make them feel like dirt because they don't measure up. When the people watching enjoy laughing at somebody elses misfortune, and making fun of somebody because of their weight (like Simon did) that says something totally bad about our society and how we treat others. Pure and simple: it's disrespectful to others. People wonder why there isn't any respect and tolerance today, it's shows like these that promote it. I only watched American Idol once, and after seeing how that Simon and all treat people, I have never watched again. If I could vote on it, I'd vote that show off the air!

I have never been a Rosie fan. I think she is obnoxious, loud and rude. She would fit right in with Simon... on Idol. She seems to slam others easily like Trump and one of the judges is probably intoxicated. Like she can talk-- is she perfect?? Give me the choice- Oprah or Rosie-- Oprah would win 100% of the time. I do not watch The View anymore at all because Rosie is on it now. She makes me sick! I'm so suprised that they even put her on it.

probably completely true. I think that the judges do go too far sometimes, especially when they make fun of someone's physical appearance (not style and attitude, that can be pretty funn). But when they made fun of the one guy because of his eyes "you look like one of the creatures that lives in the jungle with the massive eyes", and then his friend that was rather large, that was a little overboard. The guy couldn't help his eyes looked that way, and simon should not have made fun of him for it. Overall though, yes I love the show and watch it faithfully. I also like Rosie but haven't watched her since her show ended.

I don't think Simon made fun of the heavy set guy except the comment about him having borrowed his pants from Randy. I like the show too, but I was disappointed in that they didn't aire as many good singers as they should have. There needs to be a balance of good and bad in my opionion.

is it because her light of being popular to unpopular is coming near? if my memory serves me right the last person she hd an encounter with ws donald trump, who owns the apprentice. which is a popular relity show.. now she's into american idol? can you see the trend? she's into the famous shows

Yes, you're right, she did have a spat with Donald Trump which is still going strong and has even included Barbara Walters. I do see your point about her and reality television. Maybe she is targeting the popular shows just to get some publicity, negative or otherwise. I don't know.
To Ipetges: Perhaps she did make it "stupid", but the show has recieved its highest ratings ever since Rosie signed on as cohost. This is good evidence that people are watching to her Rosie's views.

I agree SO much! I used to really enjoy the view. Rosie has ruined it TOTALLY! She is unprofessional and revolting. She gives real sized women a bad name! Her big mouth makes me just want to stuff an apple in it. It is a shame that she has children, I would totally not want her as my mother. She would be an embarassment. I hope the view wises up and gets rid of her. I hope she wakes up and quits acting stupid. It's like a little kid, when they do something silly once and its funny, but around the fourth or fifth time it becomes pretty annoying. That's her, she's just annoying now.

Uh hello people, can you not see what she's doing? She gets into with Donald Trump= Publicity for both of them!
She criticizes American Idol= attention for her and American Idol. Wake up, Rosie hasn't accomplished much in the last couple of years and she's probably hurting financially. So what better way to get her name back in the mainstream than to take shots at two very high profile objects. Does anyone remember her taking shots at Tom Selleck a couple of years ago for being a supporter of the NRA? Anyone also remember her losing her spokesperson role for Kmart over that?

I definatly remember that and it turned me off from watching her show.
She is a rotten person. I don't mind outspoken people but she basically has nothing nice to say at all!

Knowing how she is now as compared to how she seemed when her talk show was on, I kinda feel lied to. It's obvious now that she wasn't being herself and that she probably was bursting at the seems to tell people how she really feels, thus her slip-up with Tom Seleck.
