Do you always have a dessert

Do you always have a dessert with every meal? I don't do a dessert with every meal I cook. I seem to only do a dessert when I have company over or for special holidays. My dad, on the other hand, has to have something sweet after every meal, even if it is a cookie. If I don't have company over and make a dessert, it seems like it is not completely eaten and I end up throwing some of it away so I save this treat for when I am entertaining so it does not go to waste. What about you?

We rarely eat dessert at home but my mom likes to have a dessert every Sunday when we go there for lunch. My husband and I have started eating really healthy and don't have sweets in the house except for fruit and dried fruit.

Maybe I could convince my dad to have fruit for dessert. Would be healthier for him also. Thanks

I would be baking or doing a dessert every day in my house if I did it for every meal. My family loves desserts, so I try to have a dessert at least once or twice a week for them or else they would be the size of houses. My figuring is that my girls are 15 & 16 and I have made sure they both know how to bake so if they want something for dessert and I don't feel like making it one of them can. My hubby just sits back and smiles......he loves it alll!!!!!

You are amazing. I don't think I could do a dessert for each meal. I like to bake but not that often. I bet your family is glad you do!

A sweet treat now and then is nice and as trustyfriend stated there are a lot of fat free and sugar free things out now or even jello is nice with fruit, but then I think I need pound cake for the fruit and jello! Ha

yes, its best not to have them around the house if your mom has diabetes. I hope she does not eat any sweets. my brother has diabetes and I know sweets are a no no to a diabetic.

She really is amazing and does not eat sweets hardly ever. She has always controlled her diabetes with diet alone. I guess that is why dad is able to have his sweets because mom has such great will power!

That is exactly what my mom tells my dad. Plus mom has diabetes and she said it is easier if she does not have sweets around the house. Thanks

I try to eat something after the meal, maybe yogurt, a bowl of cereal, a slice of cake,... I frequently drink some hot tea. Just a little something to complement the meal.

I haven't thought about hot tea but that is a good idea and much healthier than sweets!

I don't usually make desserts unless its a holiday or we have company. Sometimes if we get hungry for something sweet I will make one but is rare. We often have ice cream at night but rarely do we have homemade desserts. Mom is diabetic and my husband isn't a big sweet eater.

Yes I try to have dessert after every meal. Back when I was little my grandpa always insists that we have a piece of fruit for dessert so I guess that's why I like desserts. For now when there are no fruits around I just drink a chocolate protein shake as dessert, I have sweet tooth so whenever I'm craving for chocolate for dessert I opt to drink the protein shek instead.

Now that is a good idea. Probably more healthy than a piece of chocolate cake! Thanks for responding.

Ok, when I am entertaining, I always have some kind of dessert to offer. However we don't eat the dessert until an hour after dinner. We like to let our food settle and make room for dessert :) It almost always goes, and the rest I have as left overs for the week. When it's just a regular dinner, I don't make dessert, however I must have something sweet after dinner. Whether it be one piece of candy, a cookie, or even just a drink of fruit juice. I just like having something to sweeten my mouth after eating just like your dad, I don't know why! There are other times I will make dessert knowing that no-one is coming over, but that is rare b/c I'll eat too much if I do that. Dessert is never wasted in our house :) We all love it too much!

Must be why dad likes something sweet too. I like dessert sometimes but not every day. My family, on the other hand, would like for me to make a new dessert as soon as the other one is eaten up. Thanks for resonding.

No, we don't always have a dessert. It really depends on how big our meal is. I do make desserts when we have company. I sometimes make sweets or snacks during the day. I would rather my desserts/sweet be during the day. That way it gives me plenty of time to work it off.

My 2 kids and I have dessert after every meal but it's normally something healthy like fruits, such as apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, pears for added fibre in our diet. Once in a while , we'll have something sweet like ice cream or jelly.

At home, i only have a dessert on Sundays, as a treat for working hard during the week. I usually have either sponge pudding with custard, ice cream or a strudel with custard. If i go out to a restaurant, i will have a dessert if i have room left in my stomach for it. If i fancy something sweet after a meal at other times then i will probably have a handful of grapes.

It is good that you will substitute fruit for a sweet dessert. Some tend to think that fruit is not a dessert but I consider it just as pleasing at times. Thanks for responding.

No, we don't have a dessert with every meal. My kids usually want something sweet after dinner, but that could be a popsicle or a banana or apple...not necessarily a cake or pie. I do make cakes, pies, and cookies for dessert around once a week or two. More so because me and the kids love to bake than to eat it! LOL Usually, if I bake a cake, more than half goes to the trash!

I like to bake also and do this quite a bit with the grandchildren now. However, ours never goes to waste. There are too many of us and by the time everyone gets a piece or a cookie it is almost gone! Ha Thanks for responding.

I usually make a cake, or a dessert 2-3 times a week, depending on how fast it is eaten. My hubby loves sweets, and is usually trying to find something to satisfy his sweet toothe daily. I dont necessarily make a dessert for every meal, we just always have some sweets available. On special occasions there are always several kinds of desserts available.

Have you ever tried any of the fat free desserts. I think once you get used to them they are not too bad but my brother, who is a diabetic, does have certain ones he likes better. Thanks for responding.

We usually have dessert after supper, but that's the only meal that we have dessert with. To make sure that I never end up throwing anything away, I only make a certain amount of dessert for that day. There are 4 people in my family, so if I want to make parfaits for dessert, I only make 4. If I'm out of ideas for something, then it's ice cream with some whipped cream. Nothing ever gets thrown away.

We rarely have dessert after our meal.We prefer to keep them as special treats for the children.we have found that they appreciate it more when we do this.their friends have desserts all the time and they just expect them now.my children prefer to have a dessert as a treat so they can choose something really special rather than just have the same sort of thing all the time.
