It depends if you want to laugh or be amazed and slightly confused.
I haven't seen Stranger Than Fiction, but I'm imagining it's pretty funny. The Fountain, however, is very beautiful and deep. The Special effects are simply breathtaking.

The Fountain is incredibly beautiful, and has Hugh Jackman's best movie performance to date. But it's also rather mysterious, so if you like clear-cut plots, you may not care for it.

I have not seen The Fountain, but I did see Stranger than Fiction. StF was actually very good. I thought it was going to be a comedy, but really it wasn't. It was more deep than funny, it just was funny because they had Will Farrell saying the lines, anyone else and it would have been completely unfunny for the most part. I really liked it, I recommend it.

I'm a big Hugh Jackman fan and I couldn't wait to see the Fountain. I was incredibly disappointed! The movie was confusing and inconclusive, but Hugh gave a great performance despite a poor plot.
My vote? Go see "Stranger Than Fiction".

I haven't seen The Fountain or Stranger Than Fiction, as this is a 6 year old discussion, you probably must have chose one of the movies and seen it already.
As I haven't seen The Fountain or Stranger Than Fiction, by looking at the star cast I would have probably chose to watch The Fountain ....
