Are there any 100% vegans out there?

I think it is impossible to be 100% vegan in this society. How do others feel about this?

It can be hard. My husband and I just realized that there was milk in the bread that his mother had been bringing us for quite a while. If you make your own food, you can control it and definitely be 100% vegan. There are only 2 100% vegan restaurants, though, in our city.

wow a vegan restaurant, that would be a dream for me. I know there are a few in this country, but none anywhere near me. My town doesn't even have a vegetarian restaurant let alone a vegan one.

It is hard. I am not vegan, I am vegetarian. I try to be as close to vegan diet as possible. Vegan is more than diet. It is whole awarnes about animal products. Is it hard? no, here in states many products are mark as Vegan.

It can be difficult here as a lot of products look vegan but have hidden ingredients. after a while though you get used to what to look for and it makes it easier.

I was a vegan on doctor's orders for a whopping 4 months while I was in Japan. It would have been easier if I was back in Northern CA but I was about to get vegan products from the base commissary. Basically, I ate no animal protein, including dairy (normal, right?) but since I'm not a vegan at heart I didn't stay away from things like sugar. I hear some kind of bones can be used to grind the sugar up. I was diagnosed with cystine kidney stones by the 100s and the vegan diet made them go away. I stopped when I moved back to the US and I'm no longer having stones, so I think it had to do with a certain type of processed dairy in Japan. (Cystne has nothing to so with too much calcium though) I think there are plenty of resources out there but you have to be in a populated area that has natural food stores of fancy grocery stores with special vegan sections like the ones in CA.

I wish there was a vegan restaurant near here too. The only one I have been to is in Brighton and and 3.5 hour drive just for dinner seems a bit excessive!

I am not a vegan nor close to be. I like food too much, and i believe that to be healthy one has to eat a bit of all the groups of food. Anyway i respect all options...but veganism is not for me :)

Being a vegan has got too many restrictions in food. Not for me, either. I love to snack on cakes, pastries and ice cream. I may ignore meat but not its by-products like cheese, milk and other dairy products.

For me, being a vegetarian is not doable. I have really tried in the past, but it is really difficult when you hate vegetables. I would have to live off pickles, potatoes, and lettuce. I know there are a lot of vegetarians out there. I have to give them props. I have seen the PETA commercials, brochures, animal pics and while they were disheartening--I could not kick meat...it's like an addiction or something.

There are lots of interesting ways to cook vegetables to make them taste nicer. You can also have pulses, grains, seeds and nuts so you don't just have to live off pickles, potatoes and lettuce. If you want some ideas take a look at my vegan recipe website http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk

I too agree with u and think that its impossible to be 100% vegan in this society. I am myself student of bioology and still do n't eat vegetables. I seldom eat vegetables and eat only counted vegetables and i even did n't taste plenty of vegetables ever in my life but i've eaten chicken to such extent in my life that i do n't eat it too. I mostly eat cereals, meat or egg now and i think that over all, people usually like to eat chicken and such fast foods.

I have a student who is 100% vegan. I believe the whole family is. She eats mostly vegetable stir fry over brown rice, or things that her mother prepars that are 100% vegan, lots of fruit and raw veggies. She's thin as a rail but otherwise is a healthy, normal teenager.

Having a vegan diet isn't really that difficult, I was thinking more of the rest of your life. It is difficult not to use medicines, and use other products that arne't vegan.

It depends on where you live and how the food producers take control. Where I live it's not easy to be vegan. You have to have a great knowledge of food labels all the E-numbers. I don't have the time to check it all out. What I miss is something like a vegan supermarket. I was in NYC in december 2006 and I was amazed at all the vegan options you had there. Restaurants, health food stores. And if you go further vegan shoes are so pricy I cannot afford them. So I buy two pairs of shoes and wear them till they are threadbare before I buy new ones (sigh). And I know nothing about medication. Frankly if you are a vegetarian like me and keep exploring you are doing the best you can given the options. btw We have a chinese vegetarian restaurant in our area. Most of the dishes they prepare are vegan. At least that is one good thing.

I think it may be near impossible to be truly vegan, and I applaud you for do it. I know it was difficult for myself just to be vegetarian for a number of years. I often would get flack from my family, of all people, who often would ask stupid questions like why I felt the need to be veggie. Oh and there was that one time that my uncle tried tricking me into eating chicken....nice. Anyway, one of girlfriends is vegan, and to tell you the truth its hard to have her over for dinner because I don't think I could prepare a vegan meal for her. However, its not too hard to get vegan food if you try around here. Whole Foods definitely has good selection of vegan foods, especially from their deli, where they have vegan salads and pre-cooked foods.
