Phones have sure come a long way! We had a phone that had the round dial on the front of the phone and boy is that hard to dial slow and silently when you are trying to hide the fact that you're on the phone. My sister and I were on that phone and fought over it as teenagers that our dad actually went out and bought a lock and put it on the dial!! The phone would ring and we could still answer but we could not dial out. Drove me crazy!! I needid my phone.

My mom still had those types of phones when she moved into the assisted living home. That was only about 7 years ago. I had to use that kind the entire time growning up. It drove me nuts! All my friends got the push button phones and I still had the older one. OH and no call waiting when I was living at home either. We were the only ones I knew of at the time that did not have that either.

growing up we had one, in fact my parents had one until about 3 years ago, it still worked and everything. they finally did get a new one but they actually had to rewire because the rotary phone was built right into the wall and they had to have it rewired to have a regular phone jack put in place.

We were on a party line and it was really annoying that the neighbors could listen in on your conversations.

Yes, I remember those telephones very well. They had letters at the side of the numbers, but unlike the practice of today whereby they are used for sending text messages, the letters were part of the telephone number that you would dial. I lived in Bolton at the time and my telephone number began with BN for the Bolton exchange. I also remember the same format in the telephone boxes. These also had 2 buttons marked A and B, so after placing the money in and dialling the number you would press A when the call was answered or B if the call was not answered and your money would be returned. As you rightly say, this really demonstrates how far technology has advanced in such a short period of time.

Oh I had one and remember them well. I wanted a Princess Phone as a kid. Phones have come a long way since then. Just dialing a number is so much easier. You goof up the number no biggie now but back then? Oh it took forever to dial out sometimes. I was never much of a phone person so I didn't have to worry about my parents locking me out of it. I do remember the ringtones of it though and kind of miss it. The new ones can be very annoying.

We used to have those kind of phones before, like in the mid-80's. Nowadays, you'll rarely see those kind of telephones here in the Philippines. =) I used to play around with those kind of phones before.. LOL

We had that type of phone in my dad's office a few years ago. It was green in color but we had now thrown that phone away as it has become very old fashioned and we needed a fax in our office. Those kind of phones are still in use in India specially in the rural India

wow, hadn't thought of these in years!..i hated those things. They were awfully noisy, it took forever to dial, but they made some really awesome looking ones. They were so heavy though, i'd much rather have the newer ones, but i'd like to have one of the really nice ones just to put out and look at,,,thanks for bringing back those memories!

Yeah, I sure remember those phones. The phone in my house before the fire was like the old time crank ones and the dialer was actually buttons to push. It sure looked nice and was nice to use with the drawer for paper at the bottom. Nice old time handset too. Hung on the rung thing to hang up. These old phones sure do harbor memories. Thanks for sharing yours.

Oh wow what a memory from the past. I remember this phone all too well. That used to be such a pain to dial it when you had to put your finger in the hole and dial the number. Some people used a pencil or pen to dial the numbers instead of their fingers. I wonder if any people still use that phone. Just imagine if that was the only phone you had you would be able to call a business and talk directyly to someone. You cannot go through all those prompts with a rotary phone. I hate when you call a place and it tells you DIAL 1 for this, IF you want this Dial 2 for something else Dial 3. That drives me insane.

Ah, the good old days. Dial-up has a whole other meaning to those of us who remember the dial phones. Heck, I remember when pay phone calls were 10 cents and you went in a little wooden booth with a bi-fold door and there was a nice little wooden seat. As for dial phones, they were also accompanyied by party lines. To this day, I still pick up the phone and listen to see if there is anyone on it. Of course, I am listening for a dial tone now, but I remember the days when we would hear someone speaking and it was just courtesy to hang up right away.

I must not have have paid attention or just missed the explanation about the rating system.Where can I read about this? I do not think anyone should lose anything just because someone did not like you discussion. Now if it was really offensive then that person should just be cut out of the group. We have enough to worry about, with what is going on in this crazy world. This is a place to discuss how you feel and ask questions about something you are interested in.We really do not need any negative thoughts in our life now do we. I will give you and everyone else a (+) now that I know what it means, and I will find out where to look for other things we can do on here.

we had one like that years ago. it was kinda fun using it coz as kids we've never encountered anything like it. so everytime we use the phone it was like play coz its seems like we went back in time. and those round thingie was fun to use. but it is kinda troublesome most of the time since it is slow and noisy. ^_^

Oh yeah, I grew up with rotary dial phones. My aunt still uses one at her house-- it's kinda slow, but it works just as well as any other phone.
